TCS Scandal Erupts: Accused Face Charges of Sexual Harassment, Concealment of Marriage, and Forced Conversion

A major scandal has emerged from a Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) unit in Nashik, Maharashtra, raising serious allegations of sexual harassment, coercion, and attempts at forced religious conversion. A complainant told police that one of the accused established a physical relationship with her against her wishes while deliberately concealing his marital status.

The allegations also include attempts to pressure the victim into converting to Islam, casting a wide net over workplace misconduct. Following the police obtaining an extension of custody for two co-accused, Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis held a high-level meeting. He directed that a "comprehensive probe" be conducted into the matter.

Police Launch Comprehensive Probe Against TCS Unit Accused

Nashik police have initiated action, arresting eight individuals by registering nine FIRs following the surfacing of the allegations. The case points to systemic issues within the company's environment.

The complainant told police that she met one of the accused four years prior through college, and the man promised to help her secure a job at TCS after graduation. The accused subsequently developed a pattern of misconduct.

According to the First Information Report (FIR), the situation escalated in July 2022 when the accused attempted to force himself upon her and expressed desires to marry her. The victim subsequently joined the TCS Nashik unit, where the accused was also employed.

Serious Allegations of Misconduct and Coercion

The complainant detailed a series of troubling events. She stated that in August 2024, the accused established a physical relationship with her against her explicit wishes at a resort.

The true extent of the deception was revealed in February 2026 when the complainant learned from the accused's wife that he was already a married man with two children. Upon confrontation, the accused allegedly admitted he had no intention of marrying her.

Furthermore, the accused and two other colleagues frequently met her in the company canteen. They reportedly made derogatory remarks about Hindu deities, criticizing worship practices like 'Shivalinga' and making insulting comments about Draupadi from the Mahabharat.

Pressure Tactics and Legal Charges Filed

The allegations escalated beyond harassment, involving explicit attempts to convert the complainant. The accused reportedly put pressure on her to convert to Islam, claiming it was a superior religion.

The FIR further accuses the co-accused of sexual harassment and blackmail against the victim. Police have invoked multiple severe sections of law, including Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita sections 68 (sexual intercourse achieved through deceitful means), 75 (sexual harassment), and 299 (hurting religious sentiments).

Beyond this initial complaint, police confirmed that eight other FIRs related to alleged sexual harassment and forcible religious conversion exist at the TCS unit.

Corporate Response and Internal Investigations

On Friday, TCS issued a statement confirming that preliminary review of records indicated no complaints "of the nature that are being alleged on either our ethics or POSH (prevention of sexual harassment) channels."

Despite this, the country's largest IT services company announced an internal oversight panel and engaged external entities to conduct a thorough probe. TCS reiterated its zero-tolerance policy toward any form of misconduct or coercion.

The company also clarified that Nida Khan, identified as a woman accused, was never an HR manager, nor did she ever hold any leadership role, countering media reports.

Ongoing Legal and Administrative Developments

Legal proceedings continue to unfold, involving multiple accused. Nida Khan, the woman accused, filed an anticipatory bail application before the Nashik sessions court, slated for Monday.

Separately, a court extended the police remand for co-accused Raza Memon (35) and Shafi Sheikh (36) until April 20. Khan's lawyer vehemently denied the charges, citing her inability to be accused of outraging another woman's modesty.

Chief Minister Fadnavis, meanwhile, chaired a meeting of the home department to review the TCS case. He stressed the seriousness of the issue, stating, "Incidents like religious conversion will not be tolerated. Examine all possible patterns and angles; no aspect should be left out."
