Renault Unleashes Dual-Platform Strategy in India: CNG, Hybrids to Electric Power Surge

French auto major Renault is implementing a sophisticated two-platform strategy in India. This move aims to revitalize its product offering across diverse segments. The company plans to expand its portfolio to seven models by 2030.

The strategy addresses two critical market needs. First, it targets the highly competitive segment below ₹10 lakh. Second, it establishes a path for full multi-energy flexibility in vehicles longer than 4 metres.

RGEP Targets the Value Segment Below ₹10 Lakh

Renault is evolving its older CMFA platform into a new RGEP (Renault Group Entry Platform). This platform is specifically designed for strong value delivery in vehicles priced below ₹10 lakh.

RGEP aims to address evolving customer expectations. These include native factory-fitted CNG options and incorporating newer powertrains. The platform also integrates next-generation digital and electronic architecture.

Stephane Deblaise, Renault Group in India CEO, confirmed that upgraded versions of popular models like Kiger and Triber will soon launch on this new RGEP platform. This commitment ensures a competitive core line-up for customers well beyond 2030.

RGMP Drives Scale and Electrification for Higher-Value Spaces

For addressing scale and the transition to electrification, Renault is launching the new RGMP (Renault Group Modular Platform). This platform is crucial for the company's next phase of growth in India.

The RGMP lays the foundation for Renault's broader electrification strategy. The newly launched Duster SUV is highlighted as the first product to benefit from this robust platform.

The platform itself is highly adaptive, supporting multiple vehicle formats ranging from 4.0 to 4.7 metres. It is engineered to handle high-value digital and interactive interfaces, alongside full multi-energy flexibility.

Full Multi-Energy Flexibility Roadmap for Future Growth

Renault's commitment extends beyond sheer product volume. The RGMP is central to the company's electrification roadmap. Deblaise noted that electrification is not a single technology but a spectrum of options.

The company anticipates that customers will move across this energy spectrum at varying rates. This movement depends on factors like infrastructure, usage patterns, and affordability.

The RGMP has been specifically engineered for this full electrification roadmap under the umbrella of 'E-tech solutions'. This includes strong hybrid and full electric options, while also exploring super hybrid and e-4WD capabilities.

Electrification Timeline and India's Role

The E-Tech transition will expand progressively starting from 2026. A sub-4-metre SUV called 'Bridger' is set to be a key part of this journey.

The 'Bridger' launch will initially introduce a new 1.2-litre turbocharged engine. Following the 'Bridger' launch by a few months, it will evolve into Renault Group's first fully electric vehicle in India.

Deblaise further emphasized that India plays a significant role in the Renault Group’s overall technology roadmap. The India Engineering Centre is poised to become a key development hub for software. This development ensures continuous product development, lifecycle upgrades, and enhancements for the global Renault Group.
