Defence Forces Boost Combat Readiness: DAC Approves Rs 52,000 Crore Mega Capital Acquisition Proposals

The Defence Acquisition Council (DAC) has cleared a significant set of capital acquisition proposals worth approximately Rs 52,000 crore to drastically enhance the combat readiness across all branches of the Indian Defence Forces. The approval, granted on July 03, 2026, by the Defence Minister, Shri Rajnath Singh, provides crucial in-principle administrative approval for procuring advanced weaponry and surveillance systems.

This monumental investment spans critical technologies designed to counter modern threats, covering everything from anti-drone measures to high-altitude reconnaissance capabilities. The acquisitions are set to modernize key defence platforms and bolster operational capabilities for the future battlefield.

Key Acquisitions Approved for Indian Army Modernization

The procurement list for the Indian Army includes several cutting-edge defense systems intended to strengthen its defensive posture against diverse threats. These crucial items include the 'AKASH TARANG' Anti-Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAV) Electronic Warfare System and advanced Man Portable Anti-Tank Guided Missile (MPATGM) Systems.

The V-SHORADS Very Short Range Air Defence System is also approved, providing enhanced multi-spectral sensing capabilities to improve the Army’s counter-measure resilience. Additionally, the procurement covers an Active Protection System designed specifically to enhance the survivability and defensive mechanisms of tanks in active combat zones.

Further strengthening the technological edge is the approval for Jet Based Kamikaze Drone Systems. These drones offer superior lethality and improved electronic warfare capabilities while remaining cost effective for the Army Formations. The AKASH TARANG system will provide essential anti-UAV protection across all relevant operational areas.

Naval Power Projection Reinforced by New Acquisitions

The Indian Navy is set to gain significant tactical advantages through the approved acquisition of several specialized systems. Key among these are the Multi Influence Ground Mine (MIGM) and the Naval Shipborne Unmanned Aerial System (NSUAS). These procurements aim to significantly deny freedom of manoeuvre to any adversary attempting maritime operations.

The NSUAS, equipped with advanced sensors, will substantially enhance the operational situational awareness of the Indian Navy in complex environments. Furthermore, approval was given for the setting up of a Land Based Testing Facility (LBTF) dedicated to testing Electric Propulsion Systems. This facility is vital for meeting and standardizing the testing requirements of associated propulsion systems across naval assets.

Air Force Capability Amplified with High Altitude Surveillance

The Indian Air Force (IAF) will receive critical enhancements through the approval for procuring Fixed-Wing Based High Altitude Pseudo Satellite (FW-HAPS). This advanced system is designed to provide persistent Intelligence, Surveillance & Reconnaissance capabilities.

The FW-HAPS capability extends beyond mere surveillance, ensuring that it also includes comprehensive telecommunication and remote sensing services for the Indian Air Force. This targeted approval underscores the commitment to maintaining a technological edge in aerial operations and reconnaissance domain superiority.
