Waaree Energy Storage Solutions Launches Advanced Automated BESS Container Manufacturing Facility

Waaree Energy Storage Solutions Pvt Ltd (Waaree ESS), a subsidiary of Waaree Energies Limited, has announced the commencement of its Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) Container Manufacturing Facility in Mumbai. The facility represents a significant milestone in the company's 20 GWh manufacturing roadmap and is designed to establish an integrated energy storage manufacturing ecosystem in India.

The new production facility features a capacity of 5.15 GWh, which was uprated from an initial plan of 3.5 GWh. This increase is attributed to improved energy density of battery cells and the debottlenecking of production throughput. The facility incorporates Industry 4.0 technologies, including Automated Guided Vehicles (AGVs), intelligent material handling, automated assembly lines, and advanced testing and quality assurance systems.

The manufacturing site is intended for utility-scale applications as well as commercial and industrial use. It aims to provide high-quality, scalable, and reliable energy storage solutions to support India's expanding solar and wind power sectors. By enabling the storage of renewable energy for supply during peak demand, the system is expected to improve grid stability and reduce reliance on conventional peaking power plants.

Manufacturing Roadmap and Capacity

Waaree ESS plans to operationalize two primary facilities during the current financial year as part of its broader manufacturing strategy:

Facility TypePlanned CapacityNotes
Battery Pack Manufacturing5.15 GWhUprated from an original plan of 3.5 GWh
Lithium Cell Manufacturing3.5 GWh

The integrated manufacturing of lithium cells, battery packs, and BESS containers is designed to create a robust domestic energy storage ecosystem. This initiative aligns with the Government's Make in India and Atmanirbhar Bharat initiatives by providing locally manufactured solutions to reduce dependence on imported technologies.

Mr. Sunil Rathi, Director at Waaree, stated that domestically manufactured energy storage is essential for ensuring grid stability and energy security as India accelerates its clean energy transition. He emphasized that the integrated ecosystem of 3.5 GWh lithium cells and 5.15 GWh battery packs positions the company to contribute to India's goal of becoming a global clean energy manufacturing hub.

Waaree ESS focuses on developing advanced battery technologies and integrated storage solutions for utilities, infrastructure projects, and commercial and industrial customers. The company is currently establishing manufacturing capacities across lithium cells, battery packs, and utility-scale Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS).

WAAREEENER Stock Price Movement

Waaree Energies Limited shares rallied to settle at ₹2835.00 today, gaining 0.79% in post-market activity. The stock saw a total turnover of 431,696 shares as it climbed from a day low of ₹2802.10.
