Reliance Surges Over 2% as Meta Selects Jamnagar for First AI Data Centre

Tech Partnership Propels Reliance Stock Gains

Shares of Reliance Industries witnessed a strong rise in early trading on Wednesday, climbing over 2 percent following the announcement of a major strategic partnership with Meta. The collaboration involves developing Meta's first AI-enabled data centre located in India.

The stock rallied to Rs 1,300 on the BSE during Wednesday morning session, reflecting investor confidence in the high-growth technology sector. This move underscores Reliance's expanding footprint in advanced digital infrastructure solutions.

Building a Hyperscale AI Hub in Gujarat

Under the newly formed agreement, Reliance Industries will construct a significant 168-megawatt data centre in Jamnagar, Gujarat. Meta will lease this dedicated facility to meet its burgeoning artificial intelligence and high-computing requirements.

The project is slated for delivery within two years and includes provisions for future scaling and expansion. Reliability of the advanced services will be ensured through Reliance's commitment to end-to-end provision.

Scope of Reliance’s End-to-End Commitment

Reliance will manage comprehensive aspects of the data centre project. These critical services span design, construction, utility management, and renewable energy supply. Furthermore, connectivity and managed services are included under this agreement.

The Jamnagar site offers several strategic advantages for hyperscale AI computing. Key benefits mentioned include abundant renewable energy availability, crucial access to desalinated water, and proximity to submarine cable landing stations.

Operational Details and Strategic Importance

A key aspect of the facility's operation is its reliance on sustainable practices. The data centre will run entirely on renewable energy. Cooling mechanisms will utilize desalinated seawater in a sophisticated process.

Mukesh Ambani, Chairman and Managing Director of Reliance Industries, commented that the project aims to solidify Jamnagar’s status as a major hub for hyperscale AI computing. The development is set to significantly strengthen India's digital infrastructure capabilities on a national level.

Strengthening the Strategic Alliance

This partnership serves to expand the pre-existing strategic relationship between both global technology giants. Previously, Reliance and Meta had established a joint venture aimed at developing advanced AI solutions across select international markets and enterprises in India.

The collaboration builds upon previous investments. For instance, Meta acquired a 9.99 percent stake in Jio Platforms in 2020 through a $5.7 billion investment, demonstrating the depth of their ties.
