Reliance and Meta Partner to Build AI-Enabled Data Centre in Gujarat

Reliance Industries Limited (RIL) has announced a strategic partnership with Meta Platforms, Inc. to develop an AI-enabled data centre in Jamnagar, Gujarat. This project represents a significant advancement for India as it solidifies its role in the global AI infrastructure market.

RIL will be responsible for the end-to-end development of the facility. The scope of work provided by Reliance Industries includes comprehensive services spanning design and construction to the ongoing management of utilities, network connectivity, renewable power supply, and fully managed operational services.

The data centre is planned to have a capacity of 168 MW and is set to be delivered within two years, with an option for future scaling. This facility will serve Meta's global infrastructure, supporting its core business and AI compute needs. It marks the first built-to-suit data centre capacity in India commissioned specifically for Meta.

The strategic location in Gujarat offers several key advantages for hyperscale operations, including proximity to India's western submarine cable landing stations and Jio's extensive fibre network. The commitment to sustainability is evident as the data centre will be powered by renewable energy and cooled using desalinated seawater.

Mukesh D. Ambani, Chairman and Managing Director of Reliance Industries Limited, stated that this partnership is a transformative moment for India’s digital infrastructure. He noted that building India's first built-to-suit data centre for a global technology leader like Meta demonstrates the country's readiness to lead the global AI revolution.

Mark Zuckerberg, Founder and CEO of Meta, commented on the agreement, stating, "We are proud to be working with Reliance to build our first AI-enabled data center in India. This world-class facility in Jamnagar will help us scale our AI infrastructure globally while deepening our long-term investment in India's economy."

The partnership is aligned with national priorities designating data centres as strategic national infrastructure, aiming to attract global AI infrastructure investment into the country.
