Reliance and Rolls-Royce Partner to Develop Indigenous Combat Engine for India’s AMCA Programme

London / Mumbai, 14th August 2026: Reliance Industries Limited (Reliance) and Rolls-Royce have announced a strategic partnership aimed at developing a sovereign indigenous combat engine for India's Advanced Medium Combat Aircraft (AMCA) programme. The alliance seeks to design, develop, manufacture, and deliver the critical power and propulsion technology necessary for the program.

As part of this collaboration, the two companies plan to explore the formation of a dedicated Aerospace Gas Turbine Complex in India. This facility will serve as a centre of excellence, bringing together world-leading technology and industrial execution capabilities to support the joint development of the AMCA engine.

The venture represents a significant step toward realizing the vision set forth by Prime Minister Narendra Modi for establishing indigenous capability within India's defense ecosystem.

Anant Ambani, Executive Director at Reliance Industries Limited, stated that India's strategic autonomy mandates sovereign control over critical technologies. He noted that their intent is to combine Rolls-Royce’s expertise in advanced propulsion with Reliance’s scale and manufacturing capabilities to build an indigenous aero-engine ecosystem. "Together, we aim to create an enduring national capability that can make India self-reliant and globally competitive in advanced propulsion technologies," Ambani said, contributing to the vision of Atmanirbhar Viksit Bharat.

Tufan Erginbilgiç, CEO of Rolls-Royce plc, welcomed the opportunity to join forces with Reliance Industries. He highlighted bringing Rolls-Royce's century-long heritage and proven engine expertise in partnership with Reliance’s homegrown leadership within Indian industry. Erginbilgiç stated that this marks a major milestone toward building a robust, self-reliant aerospace ecosystem in India.

By pooling the established industrial strengths of Reliance with Rolls-Royce's global leadership in engines, the Aero Gas Turbine Complex will ensure sovereign, end-to-end capability spanning design, development, manufacturing, testing, production, and through-life support for indigenous technology. The partnership is expected to unlock further opportunities for collaborations across civil aerospace, defense sectors, and new power and propulsion systems, supporting India's 'Atmanirbhar Bharat' vision.
