In a landmark decision promoting sustainable infrastructure and energy resilience, the Ministry of Defence (MoD) has sanctioned the establishment of a large-scale renewable energy project on defence land. Raksha Mantri Shri Rajnath Singh approved the 250 MW Solar Power Project with Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) at Sitapur in Uttar Pradesh. This initiative marks the first-of-its-kind undertaking by the MoD involving such a substantial solar power generation facility integrated with BESS support on defence properties.

The project is set to be developed through NTPC Limited, reflecting a commitment to leveraging vacant defence lands for strategic national benefit. Situated on approximately 850 acres of ex-Cantonment land in Sitapur, this development underscores the government's push toward clean energy and sustainable resource utilization.

Strengthening Energy Security Through Renewable Transition​
