Cabinet Greenches Massive General Pool Residential Accommodation (GPRA) for Central Employees
The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs, chaired by Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, has officially approved the construction of the General Pool Residential Accommodation (GPRA) at New Capital City in Amaravati, Andhra Pradesh. This project marks the first dedicated GPRA initiative within the capital city and across the state of Andhra Pradesh. The approval addresses a critical need by providing adequate residential accommodation for Central Government employees. The core objective is to alleviate financial burdens on these personnel, significantly enhancing morale and promoting integrity among the workforce.
By ensuring that staff can reside close to their workplaces, the GPRA project aims to streamline efficient government functioning. This proximity will guarantee that essential employees are readily available to execute their official duties without logistical constraints.
Scope and Sustainability of the GPRA Campus
The designated GPRA Campus spans 17 acres in the New Capital City area. The development includes eleven residential towers, offering a total of 1,504 dwelling units spanning Type II through Type VI standards. These units are complemented by essential refuge areas within the structure. For vehicular needs, the project is equipped with basement parking facilities capable of accommodating 1,972 Equivalent Car Spaces (ECS). The entire built-up area totals 31.30 lakh sqft, which includes a basement space measuring 9.10 lakh sqft.
A major focus of this initiative is sustainability and environmental stewardship. All buildings are planned to adhere strictly to the best green building standards prevailing in India. This commitment involves sustainable site planning, enhanced energy efficiency measures, and rigorous water conservation protocols.
Commitment to Green Standards and Community Amenities
The GPRA Campus is mandated to achieve a minimum GRIHA 4-Star Rating upon completion. This goal aligns with the latest stipulations of the Energy Conservation and Sustainable Building Code (ECSBC) 2024 and the requirements set forth by Eco-Niwas Samhita (ENS) 2024.The campus will be fully integrated with vital civic and community amenities. These include a banking facility, an ATM, a post office, a crèche, and a community hall equipped with dining facilities. The development also incorporates a dedicated food court, shopping complex, service centre, and guest house.
Accessibility is paramount in the design of this residence. The entire campus will incorporate a barrier-free built environment, ensuring full convenience and compliance for Divyangjan (Persons with Disabilities).
Employment Generation and Project Economics
This large-scale development is set to generate substantial direct and indirect employment opportunities across various skill levels. During the construction phase, the project is estimated to create approximately 7.00 lakh man-days of employment annually. Once operational, the campus is projected to sustain around 50,000 man-days of employment per annum. The total estimated cost for this significant infrastructure undertaking stands at ₹1,234.91 crores.
