Gold and Silver Surge: Precious Metals Rally as Markets Await US Inflation Data Ahead of Rate Decision Signals
Precious metals markets opened sharply higher on the Multi Commodity Exchange (MCX) on Tuesday, driven by anticipation surrounding critical US inflation data releases. Investors are currently awaiting the U.S. consumer price report scheduled for Wednesday, followed by producer price data on Thursday. This rally persists despite ongoing geopolitical tensions, as hopes for the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz remain subdued.Domestic Market Movement: Gold and Silver Rallying on MCX
In the domestic Indian market, significant gains were recorded across key precious metals futures. MCX silver futures for September 2026 delivery surged by Rs 5,132 to settle at Rs 2,41,999 per kg. Gold futures for October 2026 delivery witnessed a rise of Rs 2,338, reaching Rs 1,55,437 per 10 grams. The momentum has been strong over the past three days. The white metal (silver) has gained in excess of Rs 16,000 or more than 7%, while gold has risen by Rs 6,600 or more than 4%. These gains underscore the rising appetite for safe-haven assets as global uncertainty persists.
Monetary Policy and Market Outlooks
The coming economic data will be crucial in shaping expectations regarding monetary policy globally. The Federal Reserve kept interest rates unchanged during its July meeting, with three officials dissenting against a hike. This stance naturally supports gold prices, given that the metal itself does not yield interest income.Fawad Razaqzada, an analyst at Forex.com, noted that if the upcoming data indicates a cooling economy without inflation regaining meaningful traction, markets could temper expectations for tighter policy from the Fed. Such a scenario would potentially weaken the dollar and provide further support to gold.
International Trends in Gold and Silver
Globally, precious metals showed positive movement. Spot gold rose 1% to $4,432.74 per ounce by 0217 GMT, marking its highest level since June 5. US gold futures climbed 1.7% to $4,492.60.Other key precious metals saw gains as well. Spot silver gained 0.9% reaching $66.30 an ounce. Platinum and palladium also rose, with platinum up 0.7% at $1,765.26 and palladium climbing 0.8% to $1,394.00.
Geopolitical Tensions Remain a Focus
Geopolitical hotspots continue to influence commodity movements. U.S. President Donald Trump addressed Iran’s conditions for a peace deal, demanding that Tehran compensate individuals killed in wars, attacks, and protests. This escalation adds complexity to the existing efforts aimed at reopening the Strait of Hormuz.Expert Analysis: Trading Strategies and Price Targets
