The initial public offering (IPO) of Behari Lal Engineering, a prominent iron and steel manufacturer based in Punjab, saw massive investor enthusiasm on its final day of bidding. The issue was reported to be subscribed over 15 times as of 10:45 am on August 14, indicating robust appetite from the capital markets.The IPO successfully mobilized significant interest across all investor categories. Against an offer of 74,12,769 shares, the company received bids for 11,12,08,292 shares in total. The Non-Institutional Investor (NII) category saw a strong subscription of 29.26 times.
Retail investors also demonstrated overwhelming support for the listing. The retail investor segment was booked at an impressive 15.79 times. This high level of institutional and retail interest solidifies the demand surrounding the iron and steel manufacturer.
##Grey Market Premium and Listing Price Outlook
The IPO has maintained positive momentum in the grey market (GMP). Industry reports from InvestorGain and IPO Watch both noted a GMP of Rs 80 as of August 13. This premium suggests an implied listing price of approximately Rs 365 per share, significantly exceeding the upper limit of the company’s price band.
The official price band for Behari Lal Engineering was fixed at Rs 271-285 per share. While the grey market indicates high expectations, investors are reminded that the GMP is an unofficial indicator and the actual listing price may vary substantially upon formal allotment.
##IPO Structure and Financial Deployment Plan
The IPO, which opened on August 12 and closes today, involved a total issue size of Rs 301.62 crore. This amount was composed of a fresh issue of shares worth Rs 93 crore and an Offer For Sale (OFS) amounting to around Rs 208.62 crore.
Behari Lal Engineering has outlined a clear plan for the utilization of net proceeds from the fresh issue. A dedicated allocation of Rs 63 crore is planned for the purchase and installation of new equipment and machinery. This includes rooftop solar panels at manufacturing facilities located in Salani and Turan villages, Punjab.
Furthermore, Rs 57 lakh has been earmarked specifically for debt repayment. The remaining proceeds will be channeled toward general corporate purposes as decided by the management.
##Anchor Investor Participation Highlights
Before the IPO opened to the public, Behari Lal Engineering successfully raised Rs 90.48 crore from nine anchor investors. These anchor investments demonstrate early confidence in the company's prospects and operational strength.
WhiteOak Capital Asset Management was among the key participants, acquiring 7.01 lakh shares across three schemes for approximately Rs 20 crore. Bandhan Mutual Fund also committed significantly, allotting 4.91 lakh shares valued at around Rs 14 crore.
The company is backed by merchant bankers Emkay Global Financial Services and Systematix Corporate Services. Shares are scheduled to list on the BSE and NSE on August 19, bringing closure to the bidding process.
