Balrampur Chini Mills Ltd Drives Sustainability Awareness with 'Bioyug On Wheels' at Shree Somnath Temple

Balrampur Chini Mills Limited (BCML) is intensifying its commitment to sustainable practices across public and cultural spaces in India through its nationwide awareness initiative, 'Bioyug On Wheels'. The company successfully brought the conversation surrounding compostable bioplastics to the iconic Shree Somnath Temple in Gujarat.
The mobile activation showcased the potential of compostable Poly Lactic Acid (PLA)-based solutions as practical alternatives to conventional plastics. Hosted at the temple parking area, which is designated a Plastic-Free Zone, the initiative welcomed thousands of daily devotees and tourists. The exhibition aimed to demonstrate how responsible material choices can support cleaner public spaces while complementing places of immense cultural and spiritual importance.
Visitors engaged with interactive demonstrations and educational exhibits, learning about the science, lifecycle, and environmental advantages of bio-based alternatives. These products are made from renewable sugarcane feedstock and are designed to replace several commonly used single-use plastic items.
During the activation, Shri Vijay Sinh Chavda, General Manager of the Somnath Trust, interacted with the Bioyug team and explored the range of compostable products manufactured using BCML's PLA bioplastics. He commended the initiative, emphasizing the importance of promoting sustainable consumption in high-footfall public places like places of worship.
Avantika Saraogi, Executive Director of Balrampur Chini Mills Limited, spoke on the successful Somnath activation, noting that it is heartening to see growing interest in sustainable solutions at the revered pilgrimage site. She stated that such sacred places have the potential to lead by example through adopting environmentally responsible alternatives that reduce plastic waste while preserving cultural heritage. BCML aims to demonstrate commercially viable applications of Bioyug PLA bioplastics across various areas, including water bottles, cutlery, prasad boxes, compostable garbage bags, and 3D printing applications.
