Balrampur Chini Mills Reports Q4 FY26 Results, Highlights PLA Plant Expansion and Stable Performance

Balrampur Chini Mills Limited (BCML), a major integrated sugar manufacturer in India, announced its financial results for the fourth quarter and fiscal year ended March 31, 2026. The company reported a stable performance for the quarter, citing improvements in sugar volumes alongside a marginal rise in sugar realization.

Speaking on the performance for Q4 FY26, Mr. Vivek Saraogi, Chairman and Managing Director of BCML, noted that the sugar segment maintained stable performance despite an approximately 8% year-on-year hike in sugarcane prices, rising from Rs. 370/qtl. to Rs. 400/qtl. by the U.P. Government. Although the price increase led to reduced margins, this was mitigated by higher sugar sales volumes and a marginal increase in realizations.

Mr. Saraogi also pointed out that the distillery segment results were subdued because the government did not increase the Ethanol procurement price from the Juice and B-heavy route for three consecutive years.

Operational Highlights and Expansion

Operationally, sugarcane crushing in the quarter was approximately 1.6% higher year-on-year, reaching about 622.2 lakh qtls. For the entire season, the company crushed 1043 lakh qtls., marking a 5.2% increase from the previous season.

Gross sugar recovery before diversion in Q4 FY26 was 11.59%, which was slightly lower by about 9 basis points. The overall gross sugar recovery before diversion for the season stood at 11.24%, compared to 11.28% in the previous season.

The export quota of approximately 1.58 MMT for the current season has supported sugar prices during peak crushing. With the government banning sugar exports up to September 30, 2026, the company anticipates exporting about 0.7 MMT from the allocated quota.

BCML is also expanding its production capacity by proceeding with India's first Poly Lactic Acid (PLA) plant, which has a capacity of 80,000 TPA. The progress on the PLA Plant remains on track with a revised capital expenditure of approximately Rs. 3080 crores, with the company expecting the plant to commence operations in Q3 FY27.

Addressing its capital expenditure needs, the Board recently approved raising Rs. 450 crores through the issuance of Preferential Equity Shares. These funds are designated to finance capex and meet general corporate purposes, with the Promoters contributing approximately Rs. 193 crores of the total amount, ensuring no dilution for them.
