Amara Raja Commissions Customer Qualification Plant in Telangana, Boosting Lithium-Ion Battery Capacity

Amara Raja Advanced Cell Technologies has announced the commissioning of its Customer Qualification Plant (CQP) at its Giga Corridor facility in Telangana. This development marks a critical step toward scaling up lithium-ion cell manufacturing capabilities in India.

The CQP is designed to bridge the gap between laboratory research and commercial production, providing customers with validated cells before they enter high-volume manufacturing. The plant is set to manufacture lithium-ion cells in both cylindrical and prismatic formats across multiple chemistries. This functionality allows various customer programs and manufacturing processes to be rigorously validated prior to transfer to mass production.

The facility represents a dedicated investment of ₹500 crore, contributing to the company's expansive ₹9,500 crore Giga Corridor program. The CQP has an initial capacity of 60 MWh and employs over 100 personnel. Amara Raja is working toward realizing its industrialization goals by introducing this intermediate manufacturing stage, which aims to accelerate new cell technology adoption and reduce execution risk before commercial production commences.

The CQP’s operational timeline includes the supply of cells to customers for validation beginning in August 2026. This early-stage commitment paves the way for the company's first Giga 1 commercial cell manufacturing facility, which is scheduled to commence production within the next year, targeting 2 GWh manufacturing by CY2027.

The CQP, alongside ePositive Energy Labs and the upcoming Giga 1 facility, brings Amara Raja close to completing the first phase of its Giga Corridor investment in Telangana.

Commitment to National Energy Transition

Shri A. Revanth Reddy, Hon'ble Chief Minister of Telangana, emphasized the state's commitment to fostering India’s advanced manufacturing and energy transition ecosystem. He stated that Amara Raja’s CQP is a significant advance in building India's battery manufacturing value chain and reinforces Telangana’s position at the forefront of the clean energy revolution.

Jayadev Galla, Co-founder and Chairman of Amara Raja, highlighted the importance of this step in India achieving self-reliance within the battery ecosystem. He noted that as global supply chains restructure around resilience and security, developing and manufacturing advanced battery technologies will shape India’s role in the international energy transition.
