Amara Raja Launches Customer Qualification Plant in Telangana, Accelerating Li-Ion Battery Manufacturing

Amara Raja Advanced Cell Technologies has commissioned its new Customer Qualification Plant (CQP) at its Giga Corridor facility in Telangana. The commissioning marks a significant step in the company's strategy to move towards commercial-scale lithium-ion cell manufacturing and reinforce India's battery ecosystem.

The CQP, which was inaugurated by Shri A. Revanth Reddy, Chief Minister of Telangana, is dedicated to bridging the gap between laboratory R&D and large scale industrial production. The facility is strategically located within Amara Raja's Giga Corridor and is backed by a broader program involving an investment of ₹9,500 crore.

The CQP has an initial capacity of 60 MWh and is designed to produce lithium-ion cells in multiple chemistries and both cylindrical and prismatic formats. This allows the company to support qualification and approval processes for Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) customers across various industries.

By introducing this intermediate manufacturing stage, Amara Raja aims to reduce execution risk during scaling up production and provide customers with cells that closely mirror future commercial standards before they transition to high volume. Cells from the CQP are expected to be supplied to customers for validation starting in August 2026.

The investment into the Customer Qualification Plant amounts to approximately ₹500 crore, forming a key part of the overall Phase 1 commitment across the Giga Corridor program. Alongside the advanced research and engineering centre, ePositive Energy Labs, the CQP brings Amara Raja closer to completing this initial phase in Telangana.

Commitment to Industrialization

The company plans for commercial scale cell production, with its first major facility, Giga 1, targeting 2 GWh manufacturing capacity within the next year, scheduled for CY2027.

Shri A. Revanth Reddy emphasized the role of the plant in the state's industrial transition. "The future of mobility and clean energy will be shaped by nations that build world-class manufacturing capabilities," he stated. He added that the CQP represents a significant step in building India's battery manufacturing value chain, reinforcing Telangana's position at the forefront of the country’s clean energy revolution.

Jayadev Galla, Co-founder and Chairman of Amara Raja, remarked on the importance of the achievement for India's self reliance. "Our CQP is a significant step towards creating these capabilities and laying the foundation for a trusted, world-class energy ecosystem," he said, noting that India's ability to develop and manufacture advanced battery technologies will shape its global role in the energy transition.

Amara Raja Energy & Mobility Limited (ARE&M) provides diverse solutions including lithium-ion cell manufacturing, energy storage products, EV chargers, and industrial lubricants. The company is also a preferred supplier to major telecom service providers, Indian Railways, and several automotive manufacturers, exporting its batteries to over 65 countries.

Stock Price Movement

Amara Raja Energy & Mobility Ltd settled at ₹898.00 today, edging higher after a gain of 0.41%. The shares throughout the trading day moved between an intraday low of ₹892.80 and a high of ₹911.40.
