Strategic Infrastructure Upgrade Targets Patna Rail Corridor Congestion​

Indian Railways has greenlit a massive infrastructure overhaul, approving the multitracking of the 29 km Danapur to Fatuha section of the East Central Railway. This vital project, sanctioned at a cost of ₹976 crore, aims to significantly decongest one of Bihar's busiest rail corridors. The expansion is set to unlock vast new capacity for both passenger and freight services in the Patna region.

The approved work involves laying additional lines across three distinct sections. Specifically, third and fourth lines will be constructed between Danapur and Patna. Further upgrades include a dedicated third line stretch between Rajendra Nagar and Patna Saheb. Finally, third and fourth lines are scheduled for construction between Patna Saheb and Fatuha.

Boosting Freight and Passenger Movement Capacity​

The completed project promises to dramatically ease operational bottlenecks across the corridor. In its initial year of operation, this enhanced infrastructure will facilitate 22 additional passenger trains running daily. Furthermore, it is expected to support 18 more dedicated freight trains every day.

The increased track density will also revolutionize bulk transport capabilities. The section is equipped to handle an additional 5.2 million tonnes per annum of critical freight traffic. This substantial boost underscores the railway's commitment to strengthening regional logistics networks.

A Key Step in Quadrupling Initiative​

This project forms a crucial part of a larger initiative focused on quadrupling capacity along the high-density Delhi, Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Junction, Patna, Kiul, Bhagalpur, Khanna and Howrah route. This specific route segment is designated as being within the Energy, Mineral and Cement Corridor of Indian Railways.

The reinforced section is particularly vital for regional industrial growth. It directly supports the logistics requirements for the upcoming 2120 MW thermal power plant at Chausa in Buxar district. The reliable rail movement of bulk inputs to this facility depends heavily on this capacity expansion.
