Indian Railways Boosts Capacity: ₹163 Cr Traction Upgrade Signals Major Leap for High-Density Corridors​

Indian Railways has sanctioned a significant infrastructure investment aimed at strengthening network capacity and modernizing operational efficiency across key rail corridors. The project involves upgrading the electric traction system on the Parbhani-Mudkhed double line section within the Nanded Division of South Central Railway. This critical upgrade, valued at Rs. 163 crore, includes necessary associated power supply installation works.

Transforming Rail Infrastructure in South Central Railway​

The modernization effort focuses on transforming the existing electrical infrastructure to handle increasing operational demands. The scope involves converting the current 1x25 kV electric traction system to a more advanced 2x25 kV system. This extensive upgrade covers a stretch of 164 Track Kilometres, ensuring enhanced stability and increased power delivery for train operations.

Enhancing High Utilised Network (HUN) Route-9​

The Parbhani-Mudkhed section is integral to the Highly Utilised Network (HUN) designated as Route-9. This strategic route connects several major industrial and urban hubs, including Ajmer, Indore, Khandwa, Akola, Purna, Mudkhed, Secunderabad, Mahbubnagar, and Dhone.

The traction system upgrade aims to significantly improve the operational capabilities of this high-density corridor. By ensuring a robust power supply network, Indian Railways is enabling the section to manage increased freight volumes reliably.

Supporting Freight Growth and Modern Train Operations​

This major infrastructure investment directly supports Indian Railways' ambitious growth targets. The enhanced traction capacity will facilitate the safe and reliable running of Vande Bharat Express trains. Furthermore, the project aligns with the long-term strategic goal of achieving a monumental 3,000 Million Tonnes of freight loading by the 2029-30 financial year.

The successful implementation of this electric traction modernization underscores Indian Railways' commitment to continually enhancing its electrical infrastructure and improving operational efficiency across critical high-density sections nationwide.
