METRO and Wipro Complete Large Scale Data Center Migration for Digital Transformation

Wipro Limited has announced the successful completion of a major multi year data center migration program for METRO AG, a leading international food wholesaler. This milestone marks a critical step in METRO's enterprise cloud transformation journey, providing a resilient, scalable digital foundation aligned with its long-term growth strategy and overall digital transformation agenda.

The completion of the program signifies a key achievement in METRO’s path toward a scalable, AI ready IT landscape. Through Wipro, METRO has established a future ready digital backbone capable of accelerating innovation and driving scaled AI adoption.

Wipro migrated METRO's IT operations from legacy data centers to a modern, resilient multi cloud ecosystem through a phased and risk controlled program. This engagement strengthened the company's cybersecurity capabilities, enhanced digital capabilities, improved agility and resilience, and laid the groundwork for its subsequent AI transformation journey.

The initiative has introduced intelligent automation across key operational areas at METRO. Utilizing Wipro Intelligence™, the unified suite of AI powered platforms, solutions and transformative offerings, these automation capabilities will manage service requests autonomously, thereby improving accuracy, efficiency, and turnaround times. Furthermore, Wipro applied advanced AI driven engineering tools to accelerate software development cycles, enhancing code quality and facilitating faster issue resolution, which allows METRO to identify recurring patterns and systemic issues, bolstering stability across operations.

Omkar Nisal, Chief Executive Officer Europe of Wipro Limited, commented on the partnership stating that it reflects Wipro's capacity to deliver large scale enterprise transformation with precision and measurable impact. He added that as METRO moves into its next phase of AI powered transformation, Wipro Intelligence™ will be instrumental in unlocking business value, accelerating innovation at scale, and enabling smarter decision making.

Khaled Bagban, Chief Information Officer of METRO AG, said the successful program is a testament to collaboration with Wipro and their partner ecosystem, establishing a resilient digital foundation that supports METRO’s ambition to become an AI first company.

Tara Brady, President of Europe Middle East and Africa at Google Cloud, emphasized that METRO's successful data center exit serves as a benchmark for enterprise modernization in Europe. She noted that with the Google Cloud foundation, METRO has strategically positioned itself to lead in the AI era, delivering the necessary data architecture, security, and scalability required for long term business value and real time innovation.
