Lawngtlai, 18th April 2026 – The focus on cross-border connectivity and regional governance was highlighted yesterday, as the Chief Executive Member (CEM) of the Lai Autonomous District Council and the Deputy Commissioner conducted a detailed visit to Hruitezawl village. The leadership visited the location, receiving warm welcomes from local community leaders.

Shri C. Lalsawmzuala expressed gratitude for the reception while stressing the administrative need for better management of trade. He stated that the Council Government aims to properly regulate the movement of goods and transportation along the Chhimtuipui river routes.

Strengthening Cross-Border Trade and Governance​

The CEM emphasized the critical importance of maintaining smooth and well-coordinated trade relations with neighboring Myanmar. To optimize this vital economic corridor, systematic planning and comprehensive arrangements are required.

Highlighting its strategic location near the international border, Lalsawmzuala stressed the urgent need for heightened vigilance across multiple administrative aspects. He urged villagers to maintain diligence in their efforts for the welfare of both the people and the land.

Mandates on Border Security and Local Welfare​

Deputy Commissioner Shri Donny Lalruatsanga zeroed in on the security concerns associated with Hruitezawl’s role as a cross-border trade point. He warned that the village faces a high risk of illegal entry from across the border.

DC Lalruatsanga urged local leaders to remain exceptionally alert to potential security lapses. He also noted that 300 refugee households are currently residing in Hruitezawl, monitored under the government's watch. The administration called upon the community leaders to ensure that no illegal activities disrupt the daily life of the residents.

Boosting Tourism and Infrastructure Development​

During the visit, the officials also made a stop at "Bawinu," a popular tourist destination situated within Hruitezawl. The site, which is shared by the Lawngtlai and Siaha districts, was recognized as a valuable natural asset.

Officials emphasized the need for collaborative efforts to preserve the area's natural beauty. Furthermore, they mandated improving accessibility, visitor facilities, and overall infrastructure to support sustained tourism development in the region.

The high-level visit was supported by key administrative figures, including Shri David Lalrinawma, Additional Deputy Commissioner; Shri David J. Byhnadaolai, Additional Superintendent of Police; Shri HC. Vanlalruatpuia, Transport Officer, LADC; and Shri C. Lawmsangzuala, I&PRO, LADC, along with leading members of the MJA Lawngtlai District. The administration assured continued support to address the specific needs raised by the community.
