IT heavyweight Infosys has addressed recent allegations of workplace harassment concerning its Business Process Management (BPM) facility in Pune. The clarification comes against a backdrop of heightened governmental and institutional scrutiny across Maharashtra’s IT sector, particularly following a massive investigation into Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) in Nashik.
The Infosys controversy emerged after several posts on the social media platform X alleged inappropriate behavior towards female employees at the Pune site. While the posts were later deleted, Maharashtra minister Nitesh Rane confirmed that the government has taken note of the allegations raised.
Infosys formally stated its stance, reaffirming its commitment to maintaining a zero-tolerance approach toward any form of discrimination or harassment. The company emphasized that it treats any reported issue with the utmost seriousness.
Corporate Protocols Amid Allegations
The IT firm detailed its robust internal governance mechanisms. It stated that complaints are investigated by an independent committee. Infosys also actively promotes a "speak-up culture," ensuring employees can report concerns through multiple established channels.Furthermore, the company confirmed it has activated internal processes and preventive mechanisms in line with its global Code of Conduct to meticulously examine the matter.
Intensifying Focus on TCS Nashik Investigations
The developments regarding Infosys occur while the TCS Nashik case continues to draw extensive attention. Multiple women employees have lodged allegations of severe misconduct involving senior staff members. These complaints span a significant period, citing incidents from 2022 to 2026. Allegations detailed include sexual harassment, stalking, inappropriate touching, and objectionable remarks. A particularly serious element of the complaints involves alleged mental harassment and pressure for religious conversion.
Investigators are reportedly examining over 40 CCTV footage clips and recording detailed statements from both the complainants and the accused persons. Police have also carried out an undercover operation involving women personnel as part of the ongoing probe.
Oversight Bodies and Precautionary Measures
The investigation into the Nashik unit is multifaceted, with several official bodies involved. The National Commission for Women (NCW) has constitutionally formed a dedicated fact-finding committee. This body is tasked with conducting a detailed inquiry and is expected to submit its findings within 10 working days.On the corporate front, TCS officials conducted an unannounced visit to the Nashik office this week as part of an internal inquiry. The company has constituted a special investigation committee and senior officials have recorded employee statements, revealing that multiple complaints surfaced during the inquiry, widening its scope.
As a precautionary measure, TCS has directed approximately 120 employees at the Nashik facility to work from home starting this week, while the comprehensive investigation remains operational.
