Indrajaal Ranger™ Secures ₹155 Crore Orders from Home Ministry for Anti-Drone Patrolling in India

Indrajaal Ranger™, a newly developed homeland security vehicle, has secured approximately ₹155 crore in orders from the Government of India, marking a significant development in establishing national anti-drone patrolling capabilities. The procurement targets both border security and urban policing needs across the country.

The orders cover two distinct areas, strengthening India’s response to airborne threats. A contract valued at ₹145 crore has been awarded for deployment in the nation's border-security environment through the Indrajaal-Sigma consortium. Additionally, a separate order amounting to approximately ₹10 crore introduces Ranger for urban security and VVIP protection.

These deployments collectively signal the emergence of a new category of homeland-security infrastructure: the Anti-Drone Patrol Vehicle. While many nations have deployed sophisticated counter-drone capabilities primarily for military installations, India is now leading in operationalizing continuous, government-scale anti-drone patrolling across both urban areas and borders.

A New Operational Layer in Homeland Security

The Indrajaal Ranger™ has been designated as India's only ARDTC-approved AntiDrone Patrol Vehicle. It is a purpose-built, mobile Counter-UAS platform designed to operate at high speeds, capable of detecting, tracking, identifying, and countering rogue drones. This capability allows security agencies to project protected airspace wherever the mission requires—whether along borders, VVIP routes, public events, or critical infrastructure locations.

Unlike traditional fixed-site counter-UAS systems, the ranger provides a mobile solution because homeland security threats are inherently kinetic and highly mobile. A drone carrying narcotics, for instance, may cross a border at different locations nightly, requiring a dynamic response system.

The core functionality of the Ranger is powered by SkyOS™, which integrates advanced sensors, artificial intelligence, sensor fusion, command and control, and layered countermeasures into one autonomous platform. The three complementary protection layers include: Retractor Take Control for safe recovery of rogue drones; Lakshman Rekha -Keep Out to establish a virtual protective boundary around secured airspace; and Net Interceptor Take Down, which physically intercepts hostile drones when electronic measures prove insufficient.

Boosting Indigenous Defense Ecosystem

Kiran Raju Penumacha, Founder and CEO of Indrajaal Autonomous Defense Systems, stated that the global focus on drones extends far beyond battlefields. He highlighted that borders, cities, airports, public events, and critical infrastructure all require continuous protection of low-altitude airspace, establishing Counter-UAS as an everyday security requirement for a nation.

Sunil Kalidindi, CEO of Sigma Advanced Systems, emphasized that the program underscores the strength of India’s defence manufacturing ecosystem. He noted that this milestone demonstrates Sigma's capabilities and the strategic partnership with Indrajaal in strengthening India's border and urban security with a next-generation capability.

Global Trend: Counter-UAS Shifts to Civilian Security

These orders mirror a growing global trend where counter-drone capability is transitioning from a specialized military function to a mainstream homeland security imperative. International incidents, such as those witnessed during the FIFA World Cup in 2026 and serious security breaches near airports involving explosive-laden drones, are pushing governments worldwide to integrate Counter-UAS capabilities into routine security operations across cities, critical infrastructure, and protected gatherings.

The successful induction of the Indrajaal Ranger™ reinforces the Government of India's vision for Atmanirbhar Bharat (Self-Reliant India), showcasing how indigenous technology can be developed and operationalized to meet fast-evolving national security challenges.
