GRSE Delivers Three Advanced Naval Platforms to Indian Navy, Strengthening Indigenous Defence Capabilities

Dunagiri, Sanshodhak, and Agray Commissioned in Major Milestone for Shipbuilding PSU

Kolkata, March 30: Garden Reach Shipbuilders and Engineers Ltd (GRSE) on Monday delivered three key frontline platforms to the Indian Navy, marking a notable advancement in India’s indigenous defence manufacturing efforts, according to an official statement.

The Kolkata-based public sector warship builder handed over the advanced guided missile frigate Dunagiri, the survey vessel Sanshodhak, and the anti-submarine warfare shallow watercraft Agray.

Dunagiri Enhances Multi-Domain Combat Capabilities

Dunagiri, the second advanced guided missile frigate constructed under Project 17A, stands among the most sophisticated warships built by GRSE.

The 149-metre-long vessel, with a displacement of 6,670 tonnes, is equipped with advanced weapons and sensor systems, including modern missile technologies and an integrated combat management system. These features enable operations across air, surface, and sub-surface domains.

The frigate is armed with BrahMos anti-ship and land-attack cruise missiles, alongside advanced defence systems, significantly enhancing the Navy’s strike and defensive capabilities.

Sanshodhak Boosts Hydrographic Survey Strength

The survey vessel Sanshodhak, the fourth and final ship in its series built by GRSE, adds to the Navy’s hydrographic and maritime survey capabilities.

Measuring 110 metres in length, the vessel is designed to conduct extensive coastal and deep-water hydrographic surveys. Its capabilities include surveying port and harbour approaches, navigation channels, and maritime boundaries.

It is also equipped to gather oceanographic and geographical data critical for defence applications.

Agray Strengthens Coastal Anti-Submarine Warfare

Agray, part of a series of eight anti-submarine warfare shallow watercraft being developed by GRSE, is tailored for operations in coastal regions.

The vessel is capable of conducting sub-surface surveillance, search and attack missions, and coordinated operations with aircraft. It is armed with lightweight torpedoes and anti-submarine warfare rockets, reinforcing the Navy’s capabilities in shallow water defence operations.

Push for Indigenous Defence Manufacturing

The delivery of these three platforms highlights continued progress in India’s domestic shipbuilding programme and underlines GRSE’s role in strengthening the country’s naval capabilities through indigenous design and manufacturing.
