Crompton Greaves Shares Plunge 7% Despite Reporting Robust Q1 Results

Crompton Greaves Consumer Electricals shares fell sharply, closing at Rs 250 on Friday, marking a 7% dip to the day's low. The stock decline occurred despite the company having delivered strong performance metrics during its first quarter of FY'27. This suggests investor sentiment is currently decoupled from operational results.

Financial Performance Highlights in Q1FY27

The company reported significant growth across several key financial indicators for the quarter. Profit after tax (PAT) jumped 15% year-on-year (YoY), while revenue witnessed an 11.8% YoY increase. This consolidated performance underscores robust demand and effective operational management by the firm.

Revenue reached Rs 2,235 crore in the first quarter of FY'27. The company’s PAT grew to Rs 143 crore, translating to a healthy margin of 6.4%. Furthermore, EBITDA was recorded at Rs 224 crore, showing a jump ahead of revenue by 14.2%, which is attributed to pricing strategies and operational efficiency.

Segment-wise Excellence Drives Growth Narrative

Segment performance across Crompton Greaves displayed substantial strength. The Electrical Consumer Division (ECD) reported a solid revenue growth of 10.6% YoY. This was primarily fueled by strong performances in BLDC fans, Pumps, and Large Appliances.

BLDC fans were particularly outstanding, registering the highest quarterly sales volume with a nearly 44% increase. In addition to existing lines, the company launched five new fan models during this quarter. The ECD saw its EBIT grow at 12.1% YoY, outpacing revenue growth due to pricing interventions and operating leverage.

The Lighting segment also showcased excellent traction, achieving double-digit revenue growth of 15.4% YoY. This division maintained a strong EBIT margin of 12.0%. Growth was sustained across both B2C and B2B verticals, supported by the strong market reception for Ceiling lights, Commercial lights, and Industrial lights.

Butterfly Division Registers Strong Double-Digit Rise

The dedicated Butterfly segment experienced robust growth, posting a double-digit revenue increase of 14.1% YoY. This division’s EBIT margin stood at 4.2%, marking a significant 19.5% YoY rise. The strong revenue was realized across all sales channels for the company.

In addition to financial strength, Promeet Ghosh, MD & CEO, highlighted key strategic moves. He mentioned that the company rolled out B2C solar rooftop and solar pumps in select cities during Q1FY27. Additionally, the wire segment launch is proceeding successfully, gathering positive initial feedback from entered markets.

Leadership Commentary Focuses on Premiumization and Innovation

MD & CEO Promeet Ghosh commented on a "resilient performance" delivered during the quarter. He stated that disciplined pricing and premiumization, coupled with strong execution across channels, ensured healthy margins and cash flows despite supply tightness impacting near-term revenue.

Ghosh further shared that the Butterfly segment won the Golden Peacock Eco-Innovation Award 2026 for its "RENZ COOKTOP," which is India's first 5-star rated cooktop. The company remains dedicated to advancing Crompton 2.0 strategic priorities, focusing on accelerated premiumization, deeper distribution, and consumer-centric differentiated innovation for sustained value creation.

Stock Performance and Future Outlook

The consolidated income, including CGCEL’s other income, stood at Rs 2,256.81 crore in the June quarter, reflecting an 11.6% increase from the previous period. The stock has demonstrated moderate short-term gains. In the last month, it rose by 1.57%, and over the last one year, it appreciated by 4.59%.

Over longer horizons, the company’s stock trajectory remains positive, having risen by 39.98% in three years and a substantial 70.08% in five years. These figures provide context to the current trading levels despite the day's decline.
