Shimla, January 15, 2026: SJVN Limited on Thursday announced the inauguration of its 70 MW Dhubri Solar Power Project in Assam, a milestone that marks both the first large-scale solar project in the state and the company’s first operational project in the North Eastern region.

The project was inaugurated by Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma in the presence of senior state officials and SJVN leadership, underlining the growing focus on renewable energy deployment in the region.

Project Details and Investment

The Dhubri solar project has been developed through SJVN Green Energy Limited on 330 acres of land provided by Assam Power Distribution Company Limited on a 28-year lease at Village Khudigaon Pt-II in Dhubri district. The project was awarded in February 2023 through a competitive tariff-based bidding process at a tariff of Rs 3.92 per unit.

The EPC cost of the project stands at Rs 367.44 crore, reflecting a significant capital investment in Assam’s clean energy infrastructure.

Generation Capacity and Environmental Impact

The 70 MW solar plant is designed to generate 141.13 million units of electricity in its first year, operating at a capacity utilisation factor of 23 percent. Over a project life of 25 years, cumulative generation is estimated at around 3,230 million units.

In environmental terms, the project is expected to lead to a reduction of approximately 1,58,270 tonnes of carbon emissions, strengthening Assam’s renewable energy portfolio with clean and green power.

Employment and Regional Development

Apart from clean power generation, the Dhubri project is expected to create direct and indirect employment opportunities for local communities during both construction and operational phases. The commissioning of the plant adds momentum to renewable energy-led economic activity in the region.

The foundation stone for the project was virtually laid in March 2024, and its completion signals SJVN’s expanding renewable footprint beyond its traditional geographies.

About the Company

The company is engaged in hydro, solar, wind and thermal power generation, with an expanding portfolio across multiple states and international markets.
