SJVN Achieves Commercial Operation Date of 75 MW Jamui Solar Power Project in Bihar
SJVN has announced that it has successfully achieved the Commercial Operation Date (COD) for its 75 MW Jamui Solar Power Project located in the Jamui District of Bihar. This milestone marks a significant step in the company's renewable energy expansion, executed through its wholly-owned subsidiary, SJVN Green Energy Limited (SGEL).The project, developed on approximately 300 acres of outright-purchased land near Village Hadhadiya, Kakanchaur, is estimated to have a total project cost of ₹1,342 crore.
According to the company, the solar power facility is projected to generate substantial energy over its operational lifespan. The expected output includes:
- Approximately 90 million units of electricity in its first year of operation.
- Around 3,522 million units cumulatively over a period spanning 25 years.
Director (Finance), Sh. Parthajit De, stated that the tariff for the power generated from the project has been set at ₹2.96 per unit. This competitive rate is expected to facilitate the supply of affordable and clean green power specifically to the State of Bihar.
The commissioning of this solar facility carries considerable environmental and social benefits, contributing both locally and nationally. Regarding socio-economic impact, the project is estimated to provide between 15 and 20 direct employment opportunities, alongside around 5,100 indirect employment opportunities, thus supporting local economic development and generating green jobs in the community.
From an environmental standpoint, the completion of the project is estimated to reduce approximately 82,250.74 tonnes of carbon emissions, thereby aligning with national decarbonisation goals and climate commitments.
The launch of the Jamui Solar Power Project reinforces SGEL's commitment to renewable energy development nationwide and advances SJVN’s vision as a leader in the sector.
