PM Modi Inaugurates SJVN's 1000 MW Bikaner Solar Project; Highlights Indigenous Manufacturing
The Prime Minister inaugurated SJVN’s 1000 MW Bikaner Solar Power Project in Pachpadra, Rajasthan. The event marks a significant milestone in India's renewable energy journey and reaffirms the nation's commitment to achieving its clean energy and sustainability objectives. The project was developed by SJVN through its subsidiary, SJVN Green Energy Limited (SGEL), in Bikaner, Rajasthan. With an investment of approximately ₹5,492 crore across nearly 5,000 acres, the facility is positioned as India's largest single EPC solar project under the Domestic Content Requirement (DCR) category at one location, showcasing advanced renewable energy infrastructure built on indigenous capabilities.
The Bikaner Solar Power Project carries substantial implications for both national energy security and climate action. By utilizing approximately 24.22 lakh domestically manufactured DCR solar modules and around 175 crore indigenous solar cells, the project strongly aligns with the Government of India's Make in India and Atmanirbhar Bharat initiatives, thereby promoting domestic manufacturing within the renewable ecosystem.
The generated power from this facility is slated to supply three states: Rajasthan (500 MW), Uttarakhand (200 MW), and Jammu & Kashmir (300 MW). The project is estimated to reduce nearly 2.79 billion kilograms of carbon emissions over its operational life, making a substantial contribution towards environmental sustainability goals.
The projected output details for the Bikaner Solar Power Project are as follows:
| Metric | Value |
|---|---|
| Total Capacity | 1000 MW |
| Investment Cost | ₹5,492 crore |
| Land Area | Nearly 5,000 acres |
| First Year Generation Estimate | Approx 2,454.84 million units of electricity |
| Lifetime Energy Output | Around 56,482.14 MU (over 25 years) |
Beyond energy generation, the project has served as a catalyst for regional socioeconomic development. During its construction and commissioning phases, the facility generated over 2,000 direct and indirect employment opportunities. Furthermore, it facilitated the development of essential infrastructure, including associated roads and transmission systems, accelerating growth in the Bikaner region.
SJVN, which operates as a Navratna Central Public Sector Enterprise under the Ministry of Power, Government of India, currently holds an installed capacity of 4,196.5 MW. The successful commissioning and inauguration of the 1000 MW Bikaner Solar Power Project reinforces SJVN's commitment to expanding India's renewable energy portfolio toward a sustainable future.
