Mumbai, March 18: Amara Raja Group’s specialized engineering and R&D arm, Amara Raja Design Alpha (ARDA), has announced its entry into the mission-critical defense electronics segment with the development of an indigenous Power Conditioning Cabinet (PCC) for naval sonar systems.

Indigenous PCC to Strengthen Naval Sonar Capabilities

The company stated that the newly developed PCC is designed to support naval sonar operations by delivering stable and high-reliability power distribution. The system can handle loads of up to 160 kW, ensuring consistent power quality required for acoustic detection equipment during prolonged maritime missions.

ARDA highlighted that approximately 61 percent of the system’s components are indigenous, enabling nearly 40 percent cost efficiency through advanced power engineering and localized manufacturing.

Expansion Plans to Build Complete Sonar Electronics Ecosystem

As part of its next phase, ARDA plans to expand its capabilities to include the design and development of power amplifiers, signal interfaces, and power amplifier cabinets. This move is aimed at creating a comprehensive indigenous ecosystem for naval sonar systems in India.

The company emphasized that this initiative marks a significant contribution from the private sector toward strengthening India’s defense manufacturing and reducing dependence on imports in critical technologies.

Rising Naval Investments Boost Indigenous Opportunities

ARDA pointed out that the Indian Navy’s budget has more than doubled, rising from ₹49,623 crore in FY21 to over ₹1,03,548 crore in FY26. This increase reflects the country’s growing focus on enhancing maritime strength and defense preparedness.

Within this expanding framework, sonar systems play a vital role in underwater surveillance and anti-submarine warfare operations across the naval fleet.

Focus on Global Standards and Reliability

According to ARDA, the developed PCC units are compliant with global standards and are built to perform reliably in demanding naval environments.

Suresh Nair, Managing Director at ARDA, said the development aligns with the company’s long-term commitment to building advanced capabilities in strategic technologies and contributing to India’s defense systems in collaboration with research institutions.
