Anthropic to Challenge SpaceX IPO Record as AI Titans Prepare for Mega-Listing

Anthropic PBC is gearing up for a monumental public debut, targeting an initial public offering (IPO) that aims to match or surpass the scale of SpaceX’s historic funding round. The preparations for the artificial intelligence firm's potential mega-IPO are accelerating as it moves toward filing by the end of this month.

The company is rigorously running its numbers as it prepares to launch, following recent investor briefings led by Chief Financial Officer Krishna Rao. This high-stakes debut reflects how fast AI industry leaders are reshaping the entire technology investment landscape.

Targeting a Mega-IPO to Surpass SpaceX

Elon Musk's rocket and satellite firm previously secured $75 billion at its initial offering, making it one of the largest first-time share sales ever recorded. The final figure for SpaceX reached $86.2 billion after accounting for an overallotment option. Anthropic is setting its valuation expectations against this massive benchmark.

While details regarding the IPO size remain subject to change and are not public, the target reflects a firm operating at the forefront of global AI development. A representative for Anthropic could not immediately respond to requests for comment regarding the filing.

Rapid Growth Set Against Massive Investment Costs

Anthropic secured a staggering $65 billion in May at a valuation of $965 billion. This figure notably surpassed OpenAI’s valuation of $852 billion back in March when the ChatGPT maker raised $122 billion. The AI developer has demonstrated intense financial traction alongside its investment magnitude.

The company experienced preliminary second quarter revenue exceeding $11.5 billion, a significant jump from the corresponding period in 2025 when revenue stood at $787 million. Furthermore, Anthropic’s run rate, which projects full-year revenue from a shorter period, hit $65 billion by the close of July.

Despite this rapid revenue surge and investment inflow, documents reviewed by Bloomberg News indicate that Anthropic recorded a net loss of nearly $42 billion in 2025. This represents a roughly five-fold increase compared to its preceeding year, when the net loss was approximately $8.3 billion.

The High Costs of Frontier AI Development

Both Anthropic and other industry rivals are grappling with the extremely high costs associated with building increasingly advanced AI systems. Training these so-called frontier models necessitates immense amounts of computing power and specialized infrastructure.

Anthropic’s operational needs highlight this cost challenge; one agreement detailed showed a deal with SpaceX for computing resources, which could be worth tens of billions of dollars over the next three years. This reflects the infrastructural commitment required to compete in the AI arms race.

IPO Strategy and Market Landscape

Ahead of its formal filing, Anthropic is set to finalize a revolving credit facility, which is expected to raise more than its roughly $10 billion target. The company has secured support from major financial institutions including Morgan Stanley, Goldman Sachs Group Inc., and JPMorgan Chase &Co.

The organization is also considering the adoption of super-voting shares for governance purposes. These shares would grant greater control over the company to Chief Executive Officer Dario Amodei, who owns about a 2% stake, and fellow co-founders. This strategic move highlights the focus on founder influence amidst rapid scaling.

Anthropic is strategically positioning its debut ahead of its rival, OpenAI, which is currently looking at a listing date in 2027. A first-time share sale that topped SpaceX's offering would immediately set 2026 up as the best year on record for US IPO volume.
