Afcons Infrastructure Secures Landmark Rs 5,301 Crore Breakwater Project for Vadhvan Port​

Afcons Infrastructure Ltd has secured a major contract to construct a breakwater at the upcoming Vadhvan Port in Maharashtra. The project award value stands at Rs 5,301 crores (excluding GST).

The project involves building a 10.14 km-long breakwater at Vadhvan Port. Once completed, this structure is set to be recognized as the second longest breakwater globally.

Executive Chairman of Afcons Infrastructure Ltd, Krishnamurthy Subramanian, stated that the award underscores the company's proven expertise in delivering large scale and complex marine infrastructure projects. He added that the Vadhvan breakwater project will serve as a strategic enabler for India’s aspiration to evolve into a global maritime hub.

S Parasasivan, Managing Director at Afcons Infrastructure Ltd, shared that securing one of the world's landmark marine projects is a source of great pride for the firm. He noted that the undertaking showcases India’s growing capability in executing complex infrastructure on an international scale.

Vadhvan Port is envisioned to be India's largest public port and one of the world's biggest container ports, projected to handle 23.2 million TEUs.

Afcons brings significant global experience to the project. The company has successfully executed various complex marine projects internationally, including the Bulk Jetty at the Port of Sohar in Oman, which is described as one of the world's deepest ports. Other notable past international assignments include the New Owendo International Port in Gabon, completed in a record time of 18 months and recognized as the fastest completed port project in West Africa, and the Sulphur Jetty in Kuwait.

Afcons Infrastructure Ltd holds a legacy spanning over six decades. It operates across 31 countries spanning South Asia, Africa, the Middle East, and CIS. As per the latest survey by Engineering News-Record (ENR), Afcons is ranked among the Top 140 international Contractors globally, holding positions of 12th in Bridges and 8th in Marine & Ports.

Today, the stock of Afcons Infrastructure Limited edged higher, settling at ₹315.5 after posting a 1.38% gain following market close. The equity saw moderate activity during the session, trading through a volume of 204,726 shares.
