Vedanta Steel Stock Surges as Q1 Turnaround Drives Upper Circuit Rally Amid Crisil 'AA/Stable' Rating

Vedanta Iron and Steel Ltd (VISL) shares witnessed a massive surge, hitting the upper circuit limit for the third consecutive session on Tuesday. This significant rally follows the company's strong June quarter earnings report, which indicated a clear turnaround in its financial performance. The stock traded at Rs 35.58 per share on the NSE, achieving the 5 percent upper circuit after opening with an initial gap-up of 5 percent.

Q1 Earnings Reveal Major Profitability Turnaround

The sustained momentum seen by the stock comes after VISL reported a consolidated net profit of Rs 122 crore for the quarter ended June 30. This marks a dramatic recovery from the previous year's results, where the company had registered a net loss of Rs 142 crore during the corresponding period. The improvement in earnings is directly attributed to increased operating volumes and higher market prices for both steel and iron ore.

Revenue from operations saw a robust increase of 18.32 percent year-on-year. In the first quarter of FY27, revenue stood at Rs 3,662 crore, up from Rs 3,095 crore in the same period last fiscal year. This operational strength highlights the company's successful navigation toward profitability following a challenging period.

Crisil Assigns AA/Stable Rating Citing Strong Fundamentals

Adding a layer of institutional confidence, Crisil Ratings assigned an 'AA/Stable' rating to VISL’s proposed long-term bank facilities on Tuesday. This rating acknowledges the company’s improving financial profile and solid business fundamentals. A Crisil AA/Stable designation signifies a high degree of safety regarding timely servicing of financial obligations and indicates very low credit risk.

According to Crisil, this favorable assessment is based on several factors including the company's diversified mining portfolio and its integrated iron ore-to-steel value chain. The rating also considered VISL’s healthy liquidity levels and its improving leverage profile within the broader Vedanta Group structure.

Stock Performance Maintains Rally Momentum

The shares have gained over 15 percent across the last three trading sessions, reflecting investor confidence in the company's turnaround story. Despite settling marginally lower by 0.1 percent on July 30, the stock has consistently broken through resistance levels, repeatedly hitting the 5 percent upper circuit in each of the subsequent three trading days.

VISL operates essential integrated steel and mining assets. These assets include iron ore mines and pig iron facilities located within key mineral belts. Vedanta Resources holds a majority stake in Vedanta Iron and Steel Ltd, underlining the strategic importance of VISL within the group's core operations.
