Sigma Advanced Systems Commences Production in India, Replicating UK Aerospace Capabilities

Sigma Advanced Systems Limited has begun production at its dedicated aerospace manufacturing facility in Sri City, marking a key milestone in its global manufacturing expansion. The facility, located in Sri City, Andhra Pradesh, transitioned from groundbreaking to active production in a record eight months.

The company's first batch of precision-machined aerospace components has been manufactured and shipped to Sigma UK, where they are currently undergoing final verification prior to customer delivery. This Sri City operation has completed the initial stages of the source-change approval process with Rolls-Royce Aerospace.

Current Operational Capacity and Future Scale

The aerospace manufacturing facility is part of a larger 500,000 sq ft campus. In the initial eight months, approximately 75,000 sq ft has been brought into operation. This current facility provides 100,000 annual machining hours of production capacity and is budgeted to reach nearly 300,000 annual machining hours.

The facility is designed to replicate Sigma UK's established aerospace manufacturing capability in India, progressively building manufacturing capacity alongside operations in the UK. The remaining portion of the campus is scheduled to become operational within the next 12 months to accommodate additional manufacturing capacity and aerospace-critical processes.

Once all capabilities are fully operational, the company anticipates that approximately 70% of the manufacturing process will be conducted in India.

Strategic Importance and Growth Outlook

Sunil Kalidindi, Chief Executive Officer and Executive Director of Sigma Advanced Systems, emphasized the strategic significance of the Sri City site. "Sri City is an important milestone in Sigma's evolution as a global aerospace manufacturing partner," Mr. Kalidindi stated. "Our objective is not simply to add machining capacity in India, but to replicate the manufacturing capabilities we have in the UK and progressively bring a larger part of the aerospace manufacturing value chain into India."

The facility was chosen for its excellent connectivity to four major ports, which supports its export-oriented operations, in addition to its ability to support rapid capability development and long-term manufacturing scale.

Sigma Advanced Systems plans to continue expanding the Sri City facility and commissioning additional aerospace-critical processes. The company is committed to progressing NADCAP accreditation and increasing the proportion of manufacturing undertaken in India.

Looking ahead, Sigma expects the Sri City operation to create specialized opportunities by employing more than 500 people over the next two to three years in areas such as precision manufacturing, complex fabrications, specialized welding, engineering, and aerospace processes.

The Sri City facility is part of Sigma's broader strategy to establish a multi-site aerospace manufacturing footprint across India and the UK. Through its UK subsidiaries, Nasmyth and Bromford, Sigma maintains a presence in the global aerospace supply chain, providing complex precision solutions for demanding manufacturing programmes for global OEM customers.
