India Packaged Food and Beverage Market Set to Cross $150 Billion by 2030 on Quick Commerce Surge

Rapid Growth Driven by Convenience and Changing Consumption Patterns

New Delhi, March 19: India’s packaged food and beverage market is entering a new phase of expansion, with projections indicating it will grow from around $100 billion currently to over $150 billion by 2030, according to a report released on Thursday.

The growth is being significantly driven by the rapid rise of quick commerce, which is reshaping how consumers purchase and consume packaged food products.

Quick Commerce GMV Expected to Cross $25 Billion

The report highlights that the quick commerce segment is set to expand sharply, with gross merchandise value expected to rise from $4 billion at present to over $25 billion by 2030.

This surge is being fueled by increasing consumer demand for speed, convenience, and frequent purchasing. What began as a last-minute delivery solution has now evolved into a key driver of everyday consumption patterns.

Currently, quick commerce platforms serve more than 50 million monthly users across over 250 cities. Its contribution to the packaged F&B market is projected to increase from about 4 percent to nearly 15 to 20 percent by the end of the decade.

Structural Shift in Market Dynamics

According to Mrigank Gutgutia, Partner at Redseer Strategy Consultants, quick commerce is emerging as a structural force within the packaged food and beverage sector. Its influence is now extending beyond distribution, shaping product innovation, category strategies, and investment priorities.

Changing Consumer Preferences Boost New Categories

The report points to a clear shift in consumer behavior, particularly among younger demographics who are increasingly focusing on protein intake. At the same time, a broader segment of consumers is opting for cleaner and healthier food options.

The ready-to-cook category is witnessing rising demand, supported by smaller household sizes, time constraints, and increased adoption of modern kitchen appliances.

Health Beverages and Impulse Categories Gain Momentum

Health-oriented beverages such as functional drinks and protein-based products are gaining traction in the market. Packaged coconut water is also seeing increased demand as consumers look for natural hydration options.

Meanwhile, indulgence categories like chocolates are recording strong growth through quick commerce platforms, with a significant portion of sales driven by impulse purchases, particularly during late evening hours.

Market Set for Transformation

As quick commerce continues to expand and consumer preferences evolve, the report indicates that India’s packaged food and beverage market is likely to witness substantial changes in both product mix and distribution channels over the coming years.
