Purple Finance Eyes Rural Boom: Plans Acquisition of Saksham Gram Credit with Rs 108 Crore Funding Backing

Expanding Reach: Why This Acquisition Matters for Financial Growth

Non-banking financial company (NBFC) Purple Finance has formally announced plans to acquire Saksham Gram Credit Private Ltd. This strategic move is set to propel Purple Finance into the crucial rural and semi-rural lending markets. The acquisition, which will be executed through a share swap mechanism, underscores the company's intent to significantly expand its operational footprint beyond traditional branch expansion.

The board of directors at Purple Finance has given in-principle approval for this acquisition. This decision is subject to necessary due diligence checks and final regulatory clearances. By acquiring Saksham Gram Credit, Purple Finance aims to strengthen its portfolio and gain vital capabilities tailored for the rural economy.

Leveraging Satsham Gram's Rural Network Strength

Saksham Gram Credit possesses a robust infrastructure perfectly aligned with grassroots financial outreach. The company currently operates 147 branches and over 31,000 microfinance centres. These facilities are spread across 74 districts in 10 different states of India.

The established network serves more than 1.63 lakh customers through its operations. Furthermore, the organization employs a dedicated workforce of nearly 900 individuals. Saksham Gram offers diverse financial products, including microfinance and both secured and unsecured business loans across rural and semi-urban regions.

Strategic Vision and Financial Impact Post-Acquisition

Purple Finance chairman Amitabh Chaturvedi emphasized that their growth strategy transcends merely opening new physical branches. He stated that the focus is equally placed on identifying strategic opportunities to expand into new geographies and enhance capabilities. This acquisition represents one such high-impact opportunity for sustainable growth.

Following the successful integration of Saksham Gram Credit, the combined entity's Assets Under Management (AUM) are anticipated to reach approximately Rs 850 crore. This expansion is set to drastically improve Purple Finance's distribution network.

Targeting Tier III and IV Markets for Future Banking Goals

This acquisition holds particular significance in empowering Purple Finance's penetration into smaller markets. The merger is specifically expected to strengthen the company’s presence across Tier III and IV markets, especially within southern India.

The expansion effort aligns directly with Purple Finance's long-term ambition. The ultimate goal outlined by the company is transitioning into becoming a small finance bank. By acquiring Saksham Gram Credit, the NBFC is laying critical groundwork for this major transformation.
