Ola Electric S1 X+ Scooter Receives Government Certification with Indigenous 4680 Bharat Cell Power

Ola Electric Mobility Limited has announced that its mass market electric scooter, the S1 X+ (5.2 kWh), has received approval under the Central Motor Vehicle Rules (CMVR), 1989. This certification was granted by the International Centre for Automotive Technology (ICAT), Manesar, a government-certified testing agency.

This certification marks a significant milestone for the company, establishing the S1 X+ 5.2 kWh as the longest range product in Ola Electric's mass market scooter portfolio. The scooter is powered by the company's indigenously developed 4680 Bharat Cell battery pack, reinforcing Ola's vertically integrated approach.

The announcement confirms that the S1 X+ 5.2 kWh is designed to bring high-performance electric vehicle (EV) technology to a much wider set of customers across India, accelerating EV adoption beyond metropolitan areas.

According to the company, the S1 X+ 5.2 kWh delivers an impressive 320 km IDC range and features a top speed of 125 km/h. Performance is driven by an 11 kW mid-drive motor with integrated MCU. The scooter leverages the high energy density and advanced thermal capabilities of the 4680 Bharat Cell, making long distance, everyday commuting practical and accessible, particularly outside urban centers.

The successful certification follows a rigorous and comprehensive validation program. The testing process, which was mandated under the CMVR, involved the evaluation of vehicle-level safety, performance, and regulatory compliance. The scooter underwent critical tests including constructional and functional safety, range validation, and other essential parameters to ensure adherence to the highest regulatory standards.

With the certification of the S1 X+ (5.2 kWh), Ola Electric continues to expand the deployment of its in-house developed 4680 Bharat Cell technology across its broader scooter and motorcycle portfolio. This advancement strengthens the company's vertically integrated operation, spanning cell development, battery pack engineering, and vehicle manufacturing.
