Myanmar Airways International Launches Fully Wireless BYOD Platform for Inflight Entertainment

Myanmar Airways International (MAI) has announced a strategic partnership with Aerohub and Aeroplay to introduce a fully wireless, bring-your-own-device (BYOD) onboard entertainment platform across its entire fleet. This rollout positions MAI as the first airline in Myanmar to implement such a system for passengers.

The deployment utilizes Aerohub as the specialized wireless onboard entertainment platform provider, while Aeroplay Entertainment furnishes the curated IFE content. The system allows passengers to stream content directly to their personal electronic devices, including smartphones, tablets, and laptops. Access is facilitated through the onboard Wi-Fi network, utilizing a QR-based entry point, providing a seamless and immersive passenger experience.

The entertainment offering encompasses a mix of Hollywood and International movies, television programs, and music content. The platform is also designed to integrate destination information and key passenger engagement features, supporting MAI's broader digital transformation strategy with a scalable and hardware-light solution.

Commenting on the technological shift, Tanes Kumar, Chief Executive Officer of Myanmar Airways International, stated that the introduction of the fully wireless IFE platform marks a significant milestone in the airline’s digital transformation journey. He emphasized that this initiative reinforces MAI's commitment to delivering a modern, seamless, and customer-centric travel experience across its network and looks forward to enhancing passenger experience through the partnership with AeroHub and Aeroplay.

Sameer Sirdeshmukh of AeroHub noted that their wireless platform is designed to ensure a reliable and consistent passenger experience. He added that such systems enable airlines to optimize weight and reduce maintenance complexity, allowing for efficient scaling of deployment.

Subir Arora, from Aeroplay Entertainment, highlighted the focus on content delivery, noting that the collaboration aims to provide a well-balanced offering catering to diverse passenger demographics. He stressed the importance of relevance, regional depth, and maintaining a continuously refreshed catalogue to support passenger engagement.

This move aligns with a growing trend among regional carriers who are adopting agile, wireless IFE solutions that significantly decrease onboard hardware weight and maintenance costs while delivering a modern competitive passenger experience.
