Midwest Energy Devices Initiates Trial Production at Battery Assembly Line
Midwest Energy Devices Private Limited, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Midwest Energy Private Limited, has marked a key operational milestone with the commencement of trial production runs at its battery assembly line and Certification-Led BESS Platform. This development signals the company's advancement into the advanced Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) market. The trial production occurred at the facility in Bengaluru. The company stated that this achievement marks the beginning of Midwest's next phase as an energy storage company, focusing on designing, developing, and producing certified systems tailored for varied regions, applications, and market needs.
The semi-automated, process-driven manufacturing platform possesses an annual capacity of 1 GWh and includes a defined roadmap to scale up to 3 GWh. The manufacturing line is structured around process control, validation rigor, and certification readiness. Every incoming battery cell undergoes verification via customized cycler infrastructure before entering production, and every finished unit is subjected to defined end-of-cycle and end-of-line tests. Furthermore, the line is designed with flexibility to manage different cell types, pack capacities, and configurations, supporting Midwest's branded BESS products, contract manufacturing, and customized battery pack requirements.
Flagship BESS Platforms Under Development
Midwest is currently developing two core BESS platforms through a certification-led process. These include:- A 418 kWh Outdoor BESS Unit, designated for commercial, industrial, and distributed energy applications.
- A 5 MWh Containerized BESS platform, intended for large industrial deployments and gridscale applications, including renewable energy integration, peak management, load shifting, and grid support.
These platforms are being developed as fully integrated systems, where safety, performance, manufacturability, reliability, and certification expectations are addressed collectively.
Certification and Market Positioning
The BESS platforms are being progressed in alignment with globally recognized frameworks, including UL 1973, UL 9540, and UL 9540A. These products carry a standard 12-year warranty on both the system and the cell. Midwest emphasized that in the BESS ecosystem, certification is a mandatory commercial requirement, a reality that has been integrated into the product architecture and manufacturing systems from the outset. As demand for energy storage increases across sectors like renewable integration, grid support, commercial and industrial backup, and distributed deployments, Midwest is positioning itself as a solution provider. Trials have begun, with commercialization expected in the coming months following remediation and fixing of any operational glitches.
