Union Minister Jitin Prasada on Tuesday underscored the need for a balanced regulatory framework for Artificial Intelligence, stating that rules should not be overly restrictive but robust enough to encourage innovation across the country.

Speaking at the Amazon Web Services New Delhi Symposium 2026, the Minister highlighted India’s growing role as a technology powerhouse and emphasized that the benefits of AI-led transformation must reach every segment of society.

AI Policy to Encourage Innovation, Not Over-Regulation

Prasada, who serves as the Minister of State for Electronics and Information Technology as well as Commerce and Industry, said that India’s approach to AI regulation is not intended to stifle growth.

According to him, the policy framework is designed to provide sufficient oversight while enabling innovation. He reiterated that regulations should support the development of AI solutions rather than create barriers for emerging technologies.

India, he noted, is a rapidly expanding market that presents significant opportunities for technological advancements, including Artificial Intelligence applications.

Scale, Speed, Innovation and Inclusion Define India’s Strength

Highlighting India’s competitive edge, Prasada identified “scale, speed, innovation, and inclusion” as the country’s key strengths. He stressed that technological transformation must be inclusive and equitable.

“India will not consider itself successful until everyone in the bottom-up segment benefits from the technological transformation that is happening,” he said.

The Minister emphasized that AI-driven transformation should not only enhance productivity but also raise income levels and improve overall standards of living. Ensuring that benefits reach all sections of society remains a central objective, he added.

With a regulatory approach centered on enabling growth and inclusion, the government aims to position India as a global leader in Artificial Intelligence while ensuring that technological progress benefits every layer of society.
