Jindal Stainless Limited (JSL) has reported comprehensive findings on its sustainable development initiatives for the financial year 2025-26. The company highlighted significant progress toward ambitious environmental goals, demonstrating a commitment to both ecological preservation and economic resilience in the stainless steel sector.

The annual reporting period, which spans from April 1, 2025, to March 31, 2026, saw JSL focus on enhancing its ESG framework across operations, governance, and stakeholder engagement. The company is working toward long-term goals including achieving Net Zero emissions by 2050 and reaching water neutrality by 2033 through intensive conservation and reuse efforts.

Environmental Stewardship and Decarbonization

JSL reported material progress in reducing its environmental footprint. The company achieved a 5% reduction in Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions compared to FY2024-25, recording an absolute GHG decrease of approximately 72,500 tCO2e during the reporting year. Furthermore, resource efficiency remained high with the share of recycled materials (scrap and revert) in input reaching 70.12%.

In line with its commitment to a circular economy, JSL has established a comprehensive Zero Liquid Discharge (ZLD) framework across relevant facilities, ensuring that all water is meticulously recycled and reused on-site, thereby eliminating environmental discharge outside the premises. Operations are also managed under stringent environmental protocols, with both the Hisar and Jajpur facilities designated as Designated Consumers under India’s Performance Achieve and Trade (PAT) Scheme, where they successfully met or exceeded set energy performance targets.

Human Capital and Social Impact

On the social front, JSL reported a strong focus on workforce well-being and capability building. The company invested over 2,10,531 hours in employee learning and development programs, contributing to improved workplace culture. Safety performance was exemplary, with the company reporting zero Lost Time Injury Frequency Rate (LTIFR) for employees.

JSL's corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiatives provided substantial support to vulnerable communities, positively impacting 1,19,406 beneficiaries. CSR projects spanned critical areas such as providing access to clean water, education initiatives focusing on early childcare and PwD students, and livelihood programs through skilling in rural communities. The company also demonstrated commitment to gender equity, with female representation increasing to 5.35% in FY2025-26.

Product Integrity and Stakeholder Engagement

The company maintains strict standards for its products and business practices. All finished stainless steel products are marked with relevant Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) certifications, such as IS 5522:2014 and IS 9516:1980, ensuring robust traceability and quality assurance. JSL reports that 100% of its products are accompanied by a Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS), covering hazard identification and disposal considerations, reinforcing product safety for consumers.

In terms of consumer engagement, the company recorded 1,584 complaints filed during FY2026, with 229 pending resolution, demonstrating commitment to timely stakeholder response. The company's business practices are also overseen by a robust governance structure, guided by an ESG Committee at the Board level, and are further strengthened by a dedicated Risk Management Committee.

Operational Excellence and Innovation

Beyond sustainability compliance, JSL reported several innovative projects that enhanced operational efficiency across its units. Initiatives included implementing a filter press system in the chrome ore pellet plant, which led to verified cost savings of ₹2,517.12 lakh by reducing fuel consumption during drying. Another improvement was the implementation of a Reclaim Breaker Feeder at CRMHS, resulting in an annual electricity cost saving of ₹48.49 lakh and reduced diesel consumption.

The company continues to drive supply chain resilience, with the procurement of inputs from MSMEs increasing to 19.29% by value in FY2026, signaling a commitment to supporting smaller producers within its ecosystem.
