
Sharp Business Systems Partners with Amber Enterprises to Localize Air Conditioner Production
Manufacturing Expansion Fuels Cooling Market Ambitions
New Delhi, March 23 – Sharp Business Systems (India) Pvt Ltd announced a strategic partnership with Amber Enterprises India Ltd to manufacture air conditioners locally in India. This move is designed to bolster the company’s expansion plans within one of the world’s fastest-growing cooling markets.Sharp Business Systems (India) Pvt Ltd, the wholly-owned Indian arm of Japan’s Sharp Corporation, stated that the collaboration will strengthen its manufacturing ecosystem and reinforce its commitment to the Indian market.
Over the next five years, Sharp aims to capture a 2-3 per cent share of the Indian air conditioner market. The market is estimated to have exceeded annual sales of 1 crore units. This expansion will be achieved through a broadened product portfolio and a strengthened distribution network across the country.
Under the partnership, Sharp’s air conditioners will be manufactured at Amber’s facilities in Dehradun and Sri City. Production is scheduled to begin in March 2026. The collaboration aims to scale manufacturing to 5 lakh units over the next three years, enhancing product availability in the Indian market.
“India continues to be a strategically important market for Sharp, and we see strong long-term growth potential in the cooling appliances segment,” said Sharp Business Systems (India) Managing Director Osamu Narita. “Strengthening our manufacturing ecosystem through partnerships like this reinforces our commitment to the Indian market.”
Industry estimates indicate that the room air conditioner market in India has exceeded 1 crore units annually and is projected to experience a double-digit CAGR. Demand is expanding rapidly beyond metropolitan areas into Tier II and Tier III markets.
Sharp Appliances Division Chief Business Officer Mimoh Jain noted that India is one of the fastest-growing markets for air conditioners globally. The company restarted its air conditioner business in India last year, receiving a positive response despite challenges within the category.
As part of its next phase of expansion, Sharp is preparing to introduce a wider portfolio of air conditioners in India, including window ACs, split ACs, and commercial air conditioning solutions.
