CMPS Policy Aims for Tenfold Increase in Container Capacity
Union Minister Sonowal highlighted that this achievement is supported by strategic government initiatives, including the ₹10,000 crore Container Manufacturing Promotion Scheme (CMPS) framework introduced in the Union Budget 2026. This scheme aims to boost domestic container manufacturing and improve supply chain resilience.The CMPS policy includes Capex support for establishing Greenfield facilities and expanding existing brownfield sites. It also provides Opex support to bridge cost gaps, making domestic production globally competitive. The initiative is set to increase annual manufacturing capacity by ten times, reaching up to 7.5 lakh TEUs.
