Govt Pushes Green Growth as Electric Mobility Push Aims to Forge India into Global Manufacturing Hub
Minister Stresses Sustainable Ecosystem for EV Transition
Union Minister for Environment, Forest and Climate Change, Shri Bhupender Yadav, chaired a National Conference organized by ASSOCHAM in New Delhi focused on 'Electric Mobility: Building India an Electric Mobility Hub for Viksit Bharat'. The gathering brought together key policymakers, automotive leaders, technology providers, and industry stakeholders to define the roadmap for accelerating the nation's EV transition.Shri Yadav emphasized that India’s shift towards electric mobility is fundamentally about building a sustainable industrial ecosystem. This effort aims not merely to replace one technology with another, but to strengthen manufacturing and create green jobs that support Prime Minister's vision of Viksit Bharat by 2047.
Focus on Resilient Infrastructure and Green Growth
Addressing the delegates, the Minister stated that the transition must be guided by principles of green growth, transparent governance, resilient infrastructure, and a circular economy. He stressed that ecology and economic progress must advance hand-in-hand through collaborative action within the industry and government. The deliberations highlighted several critical areas needed to solidify India's position as a global EV manufacturing hub. These include achieving policy continuity, developing robust charging networks, securing localized advanced manufacturing capabilities, and ensuring resilient battery supply chains.
Catalyzing Investment Through Regulatory Reforms
Shri Yadav informed attendees that the Government is proactively implementing reforms designed to streamline and accelerate investments across the sector. The reforms specifically target environmental clearance procedures and rationalizing compliance requirements without compromising established environmental safeguards.Crucially, these initiatives involve digitizing approval systems through the PARIVESH portal. These administrative simplifications are intended to enable faster investment flows while ensuring that developmental growth is environmentally responsible.
Transitioning from Linear Model to Circular Economy
A key focus area of the conference was the urgent need to move beyond the conventional linear 'take-make-dispose' industrial model. The Minister noted that India’s future in electric mobility must be intrinsically linked to a circular economy. This transition requires strong support for battery recycling, resource efficiency, and sustainable resource management. Industry and policymakers were urged to work jointly towards establishing an innovation-led ecosystem capable of positioning India as a global leader in clean mobility technology.
