Defence Procurement Revolution: MSMEs and Start-ups Invited to Forge India's Aatmanirbharta through Specialized Workshop

Key Focus Areas for Defence Industry Partnership

A pivotal workshop dedicated to strengthening India’s defence ecosystem is set to convene MSMEs and start-ups. The two-day event, scheduled for June 11 and 12, 2026, at the Manekshaw Centre in Delhi Cantt, aims to enhance awareness and drive greater participation from industry players in national defence procurement.

This initiative is being jointly organized by the Indigenisation Directorate of the Headquarters Integrated Defence Staff (HQ IDS) and the Centre for Joint Warfare Studies (CENJOWS). The workshop provides an essential interactive platform for participants seeking clarity on complex defence procedures.

Unpacking Defence Procurement and Indigenisation Reforms

The first day of the intense workshop will focus heavily on the intricacies of the defence acquisition process. Topics scheduled include detailed discussions on Defence Acquisition Procedure, various procurement categories, and revenue procurement parameters.

Industry representatives will gain critical insights into indigenisation reforms as well as the functionalities of the SRIJAN portal. The event addresses vital areas such as import substitution mapping and the protection of intellectual property rights within the defence sector.

Mastering iDEX and Technology Readiness Levels (TRL)

The second day shifts focus to the advanced mechanisms of innovation, specifically concentrating on iDEX initiatives. Participants will delve into prototype development, certification systems, and the overall process of testing and evaluation procedures.

Key sessions are devoted to understanding the environmental testing standards and the specific role played by DRDO in Research and Development (R&D). A dedicated session on Technology Perspective Capability Roadmap (TPCR) is planned, alongside a panel discussion involving venture capitalists.

Fostering Collaboration for Self-Reliant Defence

The workshop is fundamentally designed to resolve practical challenges encountered by industry participants through moderated, interactive discussions. It serves as a crucial bridge, promoting closer collaboration between the Indian defence forces and the vibrant domestic industry base.

Senior officers from various stakeholders, including HQ IDS, Service Headquarters, DGQA, and iDEX-DIO, will interact with attendees throughout the sessions. This commitment underscores the national push towards Aatmanirbharta in defence manufacturing.
