CleanMax and Gujarat Alkalies Partner to Drive Decarbonization with Mega Renewable Energy Project in Gujarat
Gujarat Alkalies and Chemicals Limited (GACL), a major chlor-alkali manufacturer, has partnered with Clean Max Enviro Energy Solutions Limited (CleanMax) to secure hybrid renewable energy for its manufacturing operations in Gujarat. The collaboration involves developing a project combining 75.90 MW of wind capacity and 84.34 MWp of solar capacity, aimed at achieving 100% captive power consumption by GACL at its Dahej and Vadodara units. The renewable energy project is being implemented across four designated sites in Gujarat: Kalikanagar, Aji Dahisarda, Rajula, and Ghuntu. This partnership underscores the commitment of both companies to sustainable industrial practices and advancing India's net-zero carbon emissions commitments.
Project Phases and Environmental Impact
The transition to clean energy for GACL is structured across two phases, with continuous supply planned to its manufacturing units once commissioned.
Phase 1 includes:
- Wind capacity: 16.50 MW
- Solar capacity: 21.701 MWp
Phase 2 comprises:
- Wind capacity: 59.40 MW
- Solar capacity: 62.64 MWp
Annually, this project is anticipated to generate ₹36.9 crore units of clean power. Furthermore, the generation is expected to reduce C02 emissions by 2,64,204 tons per year, which is equivalent to the environmental benefit of planting nearly 15.27 million trees annually.
Industry Decarbonisation
The partnership represents a significant step toward large-scale industrial decarbonization in India. Chlor-alkali manufacturing is an energy intensive process, making renewable energy integration critical for reducing emissions while ensuring operational reliability. Beyond meeting sustainability goals, the adoption of clean energy sources also enhances cost competitiveness through long term savings and price visibility.
Smt. Avantika Singh, IAS, stated that at GACL, sustainability is a central pillar of its long term growth strategy. She noted that their partnership with CleanMax allows them to integrate hybrid renewable energy into their power mix, strengthening energy reliability while advancing their commitment to reducing the environmental impact of manufacturing processes.
Mr. Kuldeep Jain, Founder and Managing Director of Clean Max Enviro Energy Solutions Limited, emphasized that the deal demonstrates how large manufacturing companies can achieve a transition to renewable energy at scale without compromising operational reliability. He added that this collaboration marks the single largest group captive deal for CleanMax.
