Bitcoin Surges Above $65k as Sustained ETF Inflows Propel Rally; Caution Remains Amid Geopolitical Hurdles

Bitcoin managed a significant climb, topping the $65,380 mark in early trade on July 21. The digital asset saw a modest gain of 0.86 percent (as of 08:41 IST), reflecting a robust recovery over the last week and a half. This upward momentum was strongly supported by five consecutive sessions of positive inflows into US spot Bitcoin ETFs, helping cushion the market from its recent lows in June.

Current Market Structure and Technical Outlook

Crypto analysts suggest that while the surge is notable, it represents consolidation rather than a confirmed breakout at this juncture. Immediate technical support areas are identified between $64,500 and $65,000, with further resistance levels noted at $63,700-$64,000.

However, maintaining strong upward momentum remains challenging for Bitcoin. External factors such as geopolitical tensions, movements in Brent crude prices, and the hawkish stance of the Federal Reserve are acting to limit broader upside potential. As Vikram Subburaj, CEO of Giottus, noted, the market structure is stabilising but inherently fragile.

The Impact of Spot ETF Inflows

The performance of US spot Bitcoin ETFs has provided a clear bullish counterbalance to recent price pressures. After recording a $424.7 million outflow on July 13, these funds rebounded effectively in subsequent days.

These inflows continued across the board: they attracted $181.1 million on July 14, followed by $107.7 million on July 15. Subsequent positive flows included $79.1 million on July 16 and $132.3 million on July 17. The trend continued with $110.3 million attracting inflows on July 20.

In total, the five consecutive positive sessions generated $610.5 million in net inflows for the ETFs. This trend resulted in a modestly positive movement since the downturn experienced on July 13, accumulating an increase of $185.8 million.

Expert Caution and Future Key Indicators

Market watchers remain cautious regarding aggressive buying immediately above the $65,000 level. Subburaj advised investors to avoid chasing moves past this mark. Disciplined position sizing and a strategy of staggered accumulation are preferred until Bitcoin convincingly clears $65,700 with sustained spot volume and continued demand from ETFs.

Nischal Shetty, founder of WazirX, pointed out that Bitcoin tested the $65,000 level but encountered resistance due to institutional selling pressures in US technology stocks. Furthermore, ongoing geopolitical tensions have kept overall risk appetite cautiously reserved among investors.

Riya Sehgal, Research Analyst at Delta Exchange, emphasized that near-term market direction will remain contingent on several global variables. These critical factors include developments concerning the US and Iran, fluctuations in oil prices, Treasury yields, and whether technology sector results justify current elevated AI valuations.
