Adani Defence & Aerospace commits ₹ 2,500 Crore to establish South Asia's largest private-sector missile ecosystem in Madhya Pradesh
Adani Defence & Aerospace, the defence and aerospace arm of Adani Enterprises Limited (AEL), has initiated a major project in Shivpuri, Madhya Pradesh. The company is committing ₹ 2,500 crore to establish what is described as South Asia's largest private-sector missile ecosystem. This facility will integrate advanced missile system production with the manufacturing of critical materials such as composite propellant and Trinitrotoluene (TNT) at a single location. The investment aims to provide India’s private sector with its first backward integrated capability in this domain. By bringing together system integration and component material production, the project addresses a long-standing gap in India's defence supply chain.
The Shivpuri facility is poised to create substantial economic impact, generating 5,000 direct and indirect skilled jobs. The development of this advanced ecosystem reinforces Madhya Pradesh’s growing role as a strategic defence hub and is set to create new opportunities for micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) in the region.
Mr Jeet Adani, Director of Adani Defence & Aerospace, stated that the project represents a significant milestone. He highlighted that the facility combines missile system integration with the production of necessary materials, thus establishing South Asia's largest private-sector missile ecosystem. This move strengthens India's defence preparedness and supports Aatmanirbhar Bharat.
The project will support multiple missile programmes, including the Next Generation Anti-Radiation Missile (NGARM), RUDRAM-II, Naval Anti-Ship Missile -Short Range (NASM-SR), Long-Range Glide Bomb ('Gaurav'), and the Tactical Autonomous Reconnaissance and Attack (TARA) system.
This investment comes at a crucial time in India's indigenous missile development journey, following successful trials conducted by the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) in partnership with Adani Defence & Aerospace.
Complementing the national strategic importance of the project, state officials welcomed the landmark investment. Hon’ble Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh Dr Mohan Yadav noted that the project solidifies the state's status as a preferred destination for strategic manufacturing, boosting India's indigenous defence ecosystem. Similarly, Union Minister and Member of Parliament from Guna, Hon'ble Shri Jyotiraditya Scindia, described the facility as marking the beginning of a new industrial chapter for the Shivpuri-Guna region.
Adani Defence & Aerospace also maintains a significant operational footprint in the country. The company has developed a robust small arms ecosystem in Gwalior since 2020. From this existing complex, weaponry such as carbines, assault rifles, light machine guns, and pistols is supplied to the Indian Armed Forces. The facility will utilize advanced manufacturing technologies, automated production systems, and globally benchmarked safety standards to support both the Indian Armed Forces and international partners.
