Bharat Forge Signs MoU with Andhra Pradesh Government to Establish India's First Private-Sector Marine Gas Turbine Facility

Visakhapatnam/Puttaparthi, May 19, 2026

Bharat Forge Limited, through its Aerospace division, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Government of Andhra Pradesh. The agreement aims to establish India's first private-sector Marine Gas Turbine (MGT) Repair, Overhaul, and indigenous Development complex at Visakhapatnam. The facility will be located on approximately 80 acres within the Andhra Pradesh Defence Manufacturing Corridor.

The MoU was signed by Mr. Guru Biswal, CEO -Aerospace, Bharat Forge Limited, during the Aerospace and Defence Investment Conclave at Puttaparthi. The event was attended by Shri Rajnath Singh, Raksha Mantri, and Shri N. Chandrababu Naidu, Chief Minister, Andhra Pradesh.

Scope and Capabilities of the Facility

The new Visakhapatnam facility will be co-located with the Naval Dockyard, INS Eksila, and the Eastern Naval Command Headquarters. This arrangement is set to bring critical propulsion sustainment capabilities into the private sector for the first time in India.

The project is structured in two phases:

  • Phase 1: Will establish a full Marine GT Repair and Overhaul complex. This phase includes hot section restoration of blades, vanes, and combustion liners, component manufacturing, an NDE laboratory, and a 72-hour turnaround capability for the Naval Dockyard in Visakhapatnam.
  • Phase 2: Will develop India's first private-sector Marine GT Development and Assembly Hall. This includes a full-spectrum hot test cell scalable across all propulsion ratings and, significantly, the development and qualification of an indigenous Marine Gas Turbine on Indian soil.

The facility is also expected to function as a regional Repair and Overhaul (R&O) hub for friendly nation navies, generating an estimated 750 direct and indirect employment opportunities.

Industry Significance

The development is highlighted as a strategic move to reduce dependence on foreign supply chains for the propulsion engines of India's surface combatants.

During the event, Shri Rajnath Singh, Raksha Mantri, noted that "These projects will cater to all three Services and strengthen our efforts to make India self-reliant in defence manufacturing. Andhra Pradesh is set to emerge as a major hub of aerospace and defence production."

Shri N. Chandrababu Naidu, Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh, stated, "New Andhra Pradesh is being built on the pillars of innovation, infrastructure and industrialisation. As India moves towards Viksit Bharat, Andhra Pradesh will lead from the front."

Mr. Amit Kalyani, Vice Chairman & Joint Managing Director of Bharat Forge Limited, emphasized the national significance of the commitment. "Bharat Forge's Aerospace division is committing to bringing Marine Gas Turbine repair, overhaul, and indigenous development onto Indian soil for the first time in the private sector, co-located with the very Naval Command that depends on these engines. This is not just an investment. This is our pledge to the Indian Navy, and to the nation."

BHARATFORG Stock Price Movement

Bharat Forge Limited shares today slipped by 2.26% to settle at ₹1857.3. The stock closed following substantial trading activity, moving on a total volume of 1.02 million shares.
