Aarogya Setu 2.0 and Digital Initiatives Surge: India Strengthens Health Infrastructure with National-Scale Interoperable Ecosystem

Union Minister for Health & Family Welfare, Shri Jagat Prakash Nadda, is set to launch a series of transformative digital health initiatives on June 29, 2026. These programs are specifically designed to bolster India's Digital Public Infrastructure (DPI) for health. The comprehensive suite of tools aims to make healthcare services significantly more accessible, interconnected, and operationally efficient nationwide.

The launch event is scheduled at Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi, and will gather key stakeholders across the entire ecosystem. These initiatives span citizen-facing applications, provider-focused solutions, vital interoperability frameworks, and data standards. The overarching goal is to transform healthcare delivery by establishing seamless connections between health records and claims processing across India.

Revolutionizing Citizen Health with Aarogya Setu 2.0 and Ayushman App

A primary focus of the launch is the enhanced Aarogya Setu 2.0, which serves as a comprehensive Personal Health Record (PHR) application for all citizens. Building upon its established trust during the pandemic, the revamped app functions as a unified gateway to multiple digital health services.

Citizens can now create and manage their Ayushman Bharat Health Account (ABHA). The platform facilitates consent-based exchange of digital health records, offering AI-powered insights and smart health reports. Furthermore, it supports medication reminders, OPD registration via Scan & Register, and hospital payments through Scan & Pay.

The Aarogya Setu 2.0 also serves as a vital navigational tool. It enables users to locate nearby healthcare facilities, check ambulance services, find blood banks with available units, and discover Jan Aushadhi Kendras. Users gain seamless access to PM-JAY services, including hospital discovery and wallet management details.

Complementing this is the upgraded Ayushman App, designed as a one-stop resource for AB PM-JAY beneficiaries. This application enables essential service access such as eligibility verification, treatment history tracking, grievance redressal, and hospital discovery within the scheme network.

Streamlining Care Delivery with Chatbots and Clinic Solutions

To drastically improve last-mile service delivery, Union Minister Shri J.P. Nadda will introduce Ayushman Sarathi. This innovative WhatsApp chatbot is specifically tailored for AB PM-JAY beneficiaries. It simplifies complex processes by delivering key scheme-related services through an easy conversational interface.

Addressing the critical needs of healthcare providers, e-Sushrut Clinic will be unveiled as a plug-and-play clinic management solution. This platform empowers practitioners to digitize their clinical workflows. It ensures the maintenance of electronic health records and provides seamless integration with the broader Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission ecosystem.

The introduction of the Unified Health Interface (UHI) further strengthens network connectivity. UHI allows various digital applications to connect citizens directly with service providers using a common, interoperable framework. This facilitates easier discovery and access to diverse healthcare services across the nation.

Establishing Standards: Claims Processing and Data Interoperability

Beyond direct citizen interaction, several initiatives are dedicated to fortifying the underlying infrastructure of claims processing and data standardization nationwide. These moves tackle fragmentation within the health sector ecosystem.

The National Health Claims Exchange (NHCX) is a crucial piece of digital public infrastructure. NHCX will standardize the exchange of health claims information between payers and service providers across both public and private insurance programs. This directly aims to streamline operations, reduce administrative burden, and accelerate efficient claims processing.

To ensure uniform consistency, the NHA will also launch a utility for converting various insurers' plan details into standardized FHIR bundles. This utility ensures error-free creation of insurance plan information across all payers, substantially improving the flow of health claims data.

The Pillars of Digital Health Standardization

A major focus is establishing a common technical language for digital healthcare in India. Three interconnected initiatives—the Drug Registry, Common LOINC Codes for India (CLCI), and Bharat Health Terminology Service (BHTS)—will achieve this standardization.

The launch of the Drug Registry will standardize medicine-related information across all digital health platforms. By implementing uniform coding of medicines, the registry supports improved prescribing, dispensing, and holistic data exchange within healthcare systems.

NRCeS has developed CLCI, a nationally curated subset of international laboratory standards tailored for Indian needs. CLCI will ensure seamless exchange of diagnostic and laboratory data between hospitals, laboratories, and digital platforms, significantly improving data quality and clinical decision-making.

The Bharat Health Terminology Service (BHTS), also from NRCeS, provides essential access to standardized healthcare terminologies and code systems. Collectively, the Drug Registry, CLCI, and BHTS aim to create a common lexicon for digital health delivery in India, allowing all stakeholders to interpret health information seamlessly.
