The next installment of dearness allowance (DA) for central government employees is anticipated around September, though a slight delay until October remains possible. Manjeet Singh Patel, President of the All India NPS Employees Federation, clarified that this timeline is necessary because the government requires data spanning at least two to three months to accurately determine the DA rate.The calculation hinges on the All India Consumer Price Index for Industrial Workers (AICPI-IW) released by the Labour Bureau. The most recent AICPI-IW recorded for April 2026 surged by 0.8 points, reaching a value of 149.9. For the subsequent hike, employees will be assessed using data from May and June 2026.
8th CPC Closes Memorandum Submissions; Unions Demand Pay Hikes and OPS Review
The deadline for submitting memoranda to the 8th Central Pay Commission (CPC) concluded on June 15, 2026. The commission had opened submissions to various stakeholders seeking input on pay structures for employees, pensioners, and judicial officers.Employee unions have centered their demands around significant improvements in basic pay and the implementation of a higher fitment factor. A key concern raised by employee bodies is the restoration of the Old Pension Scheme (OPS) or a thorough review of the NPS/UPS framework. The 8th CPC has been actively conducting state visits as it works toward completing its mandate to revise salaries and pensions for approximately 55 lakh serving employees and an estimated 69 lakh pensioners. The commission is expected to conclude all deliberations expeditiously after reviewing the collected stakeholder suggestions.Upcoming travel includes meetings in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh (June 22-23), Bhubaneswar, Odisha (July 6-7), and Kolkata, West Bengal (July 9-10). Previously, the Commission held consultations across states including Delhi, Hyderabad, Telangana, Ladakh, Jammu and Kashmir, and Maharashtra.
