Vikram Solar Commissions New Mega-Facility in Tamil Nadu; Focus on Domestic Integration and Future Capacity Build

Vikram Solar Limited, a prominent player in India's solar PV module manufacturing sector, has successfully commissioned its new mega-facility located in Gangaikondan, Tamil Nadu. The formal commissioning marks the successful production of the company’s first solar module from the state-of-the-art facility.

The Gangaikondan greenfield module manufacturing plant spans 6 lakh sq ft and is designed as a next-generation smart factory. It integrates advanced automation with digital manufacturing technologies to ensure high efficiency, quality, and reliability throughout the production process. The facility aims to generate employment opportunities for over 1,500 skilled professionals and supports regional industrial development by expanding India's clean energy manufacturing base.

The plant incorporates systems designed for real-time monitoring of the entire production process, complete traceability of every manufactured module, and automated inspection systems to detect defects accurately. Furthermore, automated systems are utilized to grade, sort, and package modules based on performance standards.

Product Specifications and Future Roadmap

The initial products rolled out at the Gangaikondan plant are Vikram Solar's Hypersol N-Type TOPCon G12R modules. These modules deliver between 615-640 Wp of rated power and feature efficiencies up to 23.69%.

The facility is a central component of Vikram Solar’s vision to establish a fully integrated solar manufacturing ecosystem in India. Over subsequent years, the campus will progressively incorporate module, cell, wafer, and ingot manufacturing, aiming to bring the entire solar value chain under one roof. This integration model is set to enhance domestic value addition, strengthen supply chain resilience, and reduce logistics costs.

The company has outlined ambitious capacity expansion goals for the Gangaikondan site:

Leadership Commentary and Commitment to India's Energy Goals

Mr Gyanesh Chaudhary, Chairman & Managing Director of Vikram Solar, emphasized the significance of this milestone. He stated that the rollout from the Gangaikondan plant is a major step in the company’s growth journey, particularly as the company surpassed 10 GW in cumulative global module deployments earlier this year.

He added that by progressively adding cell, wafer, and ingot production at the site, Vikram Solar is building an integrated manufacturing platform aligned with India's domestic content framework. Mr Chaudhary affirmed that the initiative supports enhancing domestic value creation and strengthens India's clean energy ambitions, calling it "more than a new plant."
