Vikram Solar Surges Past 10 GW Global Milestone, Solidifying Role in India's Green Energy Future

New Delhi, Apr 13 Vikram Solar has marked a massive milestone, announcing that its cumulative global solar module deployments have crossed the significant 10 GW threshold. This achievement cements the company's position as a major contributor to the worldwide transition towards renewable power.

The 10 GW deployment milestone is equivalent to deploying over 25 million solar modules across the globe. According to a company statement, this scale of energy generation is sufficient to power more than 5 million Indian homes.

The company's growth momentum is particularly impressive. Vikram Solar doubled its total cumulative deployments, moving from 5 GW to 10 GW, in just two years. This rapid escalation reflects both robust market demand and a powerful growth trajectory built over the last two decades.

Strengthening India's Solar Backbone

While a large portion of the deployments remains within India, the company has maintained a steady expansion of its international presence. To date, approximately 1.5 GW of modules have been successfully exported, allowing Vikram Solar to establish a foothold in 39 countries worldwide.

To support this surging capacity, the company has built a substantial manufacturing base. It has established a total module manufacturing capacity of 9.5 GW across West Bengal and Tamil Nadu.

A key facility driving this capacity growth is the 5 GW plant located in Vallam, Tamil Nadu. This site is noted for incorporating advanced automation and next-generation manufacturing systems, ensuring high efficiency in production.

Scaling Capacity and Diversifying into Energy Storage

Vikram Solar is actively bolstering its manufacturing capability through backward integration strategies. The Gangaikondan site, for instance, is set to scale up dramatically to include 6 GW of modules and an impressive 12 GW of cell capacity.

Beyond modules, the company is strategically diversifying into the high-growth sector of energy storage. This push is spearheaded by VSL Powerhive, which plans to establish a 5 GWh Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) facility by FY27.

Furthermore, the company has launched VION, its dedicated lithium battery brand. VION targets both residential and mobility markets, ensuring comprehensive backup solutions for consumers.

Enabling the Global Energy Transition

Gyanesh Chaudhary, Chairman and Managing Director of Vikram Solar, emphasized the significance of the milestone. He stated that this expansive capability will enable the company to contribute meaningfully to the scale, resilience, and reliability demanded by the global energy transition.

Headquartered in Kolkata, Vikram Solar stands as one of India's leading solar module manufacturers. The company specializes in efficient photovoltaic module manufacturing while maintaining its international presence across 39 countries.
